Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) Hiring Partnerships and Grants Manager, Senior Fundraising and Partnerships Officer & Internal Auditor

The Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) is an indigenous non-profit community conservancy membership organisation. Its mission is to develop resilient community conservancies that transform lives, secure peace, and conserve natural resources. NRT currently supports 45 community conservancies across Kenya in 10 counties (Marsabit, Laikipia, Isiolo, Meru, Baringo, Samburu, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu and West Pokot counties) and Uganda.

Partnerships and Grants Manager

The Partnerships and Grants Manager will manage a portfolio of significant multi-lateral and bi-lateral funders. This involves identifying and evaluating potential funding opportunity, cultivating relationships with targeted funders (formal and informal reporting), leading and writing proposals and bids, coordinating internally across NRT’s cross-functional departments (finance, programmes, communications, M&E) to develop compelling proposals that help fill funding gaps, report on status of the grants. The Account Manager is also responsible for monitoring and tracking opportunities throughout the funding cycle, helping mitigate any risks or challenges that arise and working as a high performing team member.

Key roles/responsibilities:

▪ Manage a portfolio of bilateral, multi-lateral donors – ensuring both compliance and engagement plans to build strong, long-term partnerships.

▪ Develop grant proposals and bids – especially for large funders such as European Commission, USAID, DANIDA, Sida, AfD, FCDO, UN, World Bank.

▪ Develop and implement engagement strategies to deepen relationships with funders and donors, creating long term relationships of trust mutual accountability.

▪ Manage ad hoc teams and coordinate grant project planning and reporting – with ability to initiate internal teams of peers around an agreed timeline and set of deliverables.

▪ Support basic proposal budgeting and reporting, helping review and explain financial reports and monitor burn rates.

▪ Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.

▪ Ensure compliance with NRT policies and procedures and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements.

▪ Manage or participate in complex or sensitive negotiations with implementing partners, conservancy members and boards, and funders.

▪ Convey the mission of NRT to diverse groups who are important stakeholders.

▪ Travel frequently and on short notice, work long and flexible hours as needed.

▪ Coordinate reporting and providing information needed by partners/donors/stakeholders; ensuring financial, MERL and Program reports align.

Senior Fundraising and Partnerships Officer- NRT Coast Region

The Senior Fundraising and Partnerships Officer will participate in the Coastal senior regional team to ensure smooth management of a portfolio of significant public and private grants. This involves identifying and evaluating potential funding opportunities, cultivating relationships with targeted funders (formal and informal reporting), leading and writing proposals and bids that address funding gaps, coordinating internally across NRT’s cross-functional departments (finance, programmes, communications, M&E) to develop reports on status of the grants. The Coordinator is also responsible for monitoring and tracking opportunities throughout the funding cycle, helping mitigate any risks or challenges that arise and working as a high performing team member.

Key roles/responsibilities:

▪ Manage a portfolio of bilateral, multi-lateral donors and/or foundation donors – ensuring both compliance and engagement plans to build strong, long-term partnerships.

▪ Lead on the development of grant proposals and bids – getting inputs and content from the regional implementers.

▪ Support relationships with funders and donors to help deepen relationships by explaining the context and promoting mutual accountability.

▪ Manage ad hoc teams and coordinate grant project planning and reporting – with ability to initiate internal teams of peers around an agreed timeline and set of deliverables.

▪ Support basic proposal budgeting and reporting, helping review and explain financial reports and monitor burn rates.

Internal Auditor

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Senior Internal Auditor, the Internal Auditor will be responsible for implementing audit strategies, audit work plans and programmes as well as conducting audits, analysing data, identifying any control weaknesses and providing recommendations for process improvements. We invite applications from highly motivated professionals, with extensive experience in operational and performance audits as well as risk-based approach to reviews.

The successful candidate should have excellent numeracy, computer and financial skills/knowledge and experience preferably working in the not-for-profit sector. It is expected that the Internal Auditor will undertake audits within a challenging environment. This includes leading in the design and delivery of new audit initiatives as well as high level, strategic and complex audits.

Secondly, the person will also provide significant input to the design and delivery of ongoing risk management and control initiatives. These will be designed and delivered in accordance with the agreed internal auditing standards. This includes contributing to the development of new and improved audit processes.

Key roles/responsibilities:

▪ Preparation of risk based annual audit plan and Internal audit budget.

▪ Ensure all audits are well planned and conducted in accordance with professional standards.

▪ Undertake the design and delivery of new audit initiatives.

▪ Develop professional and constructive working relationships with staff and other stakeholders.

▪ Provide advice, guidance and support on risk and control issues to a wide range of staff at different levels of the organization.

▪ Produce quality reports for review by Senior Internal Auditor.

▪ Ensure responses to reports are received, reviewed, and acted upon.

▪ Follow up and monitoring on the implementation of recommendations for internal audits, external audits, project audits and other reviews.

▪ Ensure timely preparation of audit reports.
