Qualification
Must have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized Institution.
- Must be registered with Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience at a comparable position.
- Must be Computer Literate.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).

Reporting to: Dean, School of Nursing
Duties and responsibilities:
- Assisting the chief technologist in day-to-day activities of the laboratory.
- Provide support in teaching and assessing courses in the nursing discipline at undergraduate level.
- Supervising practical conduction technologists and ensuring that they are of quality.
- Liaising with the directorate of teaching programs and the relevant department to ensure that practical conduction and their monitoring is done.
- Liaising with academic staff to discuss timetables, equipment requirements and work plans.
- Running trials of experiments prior to practical sessions and then demonstrating techniques for experiments.
- Preparing equipment and chemicals before practical sessions.
- Maintaining /being the custodian of equipment and laboratory apparatus in the assigned laboratory(ies).
- Reporting failure /breakdown of the equipment to the chief technologist
- Record keeping, e.g., student’s practical sessions, tracking methods results, etc.
- Ensuring that the laboratories are properly cleaned and that chemicals, drugs and other materials are appropriately stored.
- Cataloguing records and making them available when requested.
- Supporting the work of lecturers in laboratory sessions and giving technical advice to staff and students.
- Working with students and supporting them on research projects.
- Managing the stock control of chemicals and equipment.
- Contributing to research.
- Ensuring that all health and safety procedures are understood and followed correctly.
- Coordinating work in the laboratory to ensure efficient use is made of expensive pieces of equipment.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies by cleaning maintaining quality assurance.
- Developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the laboratory and equipment.
- Maintaining a clean sanitary work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice.
- Keeping up to date with technical developments, especially those which can save time and improve reality.
- Maintaining the catalogue of all equipment and their movement.
- Ensuring regular and scheduled maintenance log of equipment including their repair calibration.
- Any other duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
