We are currently recruiting for the following position:
COSECSA Resident Training Program
The COSECSA postgraduate training program is a 5-year general surgery program based at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital training site. Successful candidates will earn a Fellowship in General Surgery (FCS-ECSA) upon completion of the program.
Key Responsibilities
- Emergency Care: Manage emergency calls, conduct patient assessments, admit and investigate cases in consultation with on-call surgeons or senior residents for guidance and supervision.
- Training Participation: Attend lectures, seminars, and training sessions while participating in ward rounds and other educational activities.
- Skill Development: Rotate through various institutions or stations as determined by the program to gain comprehensive skills.
- Surgical Care: Offer outpatient consultation services, participate in surgical operations, and provide follow-up care under supervision.
- Teaching & Research: Conduct research, participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) seminars, and mentor junior staff such as medical officers, interns, and nurses to enhance professional skills.
- Quality Improvement: Engage in quality improvement initiatives and provide reports as required.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MB ChB).
- Experience: Minimum of two years post-internship.
- Certifications: Training in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
- Registration: Must be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) and hold a valid practicing license.
