Overall Purpose
The Global Migration Lab – Africa Regional Migration Research Hub (the Hub), hosted by Kenya Red Cross, is the Africa regional research arm of the Red Cross Red Crescent Global Migration Lab (the Lab). The Hub supports humanitarian diplomacy and advocacy by producing evidence-based research designed to promote the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of migrants. In partnership with local organizations and academic institutions, the Hub produces regional insights and recommendations to address humanitarian needs and impacts related to migration.
The Program Coordinator role will be based in Nairobi at Kenya Red Cross and is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, execution of regional research projects, under the supervision of the Program Manager of the Hub and in coordination with the Global Migration Lab.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support the Program Manager to execute the Hub’s research agenda and projects related to Movement priorities, in coordination with the Global Migration Lab.
- In coordination with the Program Manager, liaise with regional stakeholders (internal and external) to build partnerships and engage in collaborative research projects.
- Maintain relationships with KRCS colleagues (who are key internal stakeholders for the Lab) through participation in relevant departmental meetings and regular attendance at the KRCS office.
- Provide logistical and administrative support to the Hub for research projects, including arranging research meetings and consultations, managing invitations for research and policy events, securing translation and interpretation services, etc.
- Track and monitor progress in research projects and provide updates to the Program Manager.
- Liaise and coordinate with National Society research focal points in the region to support and track research project progress and address challenges.
- Support data collection and analysis at the national and regional level and preparation of draft research reports and papers for further review by the Program Manager at the Hub and the Global Migration Lab more broadly.
- Contribute to communication materials and resources related to the work of the Hub (and the Lab).
- Where nominated by the Program Manager, represent the Hub (and Lab) at relevant regional conferences, workshops, policy and technical working groups and keep a record of key priorities for action.
- Preparing briefing materials for the senior team, arranging logistics and travel for the team and both inward and outward delegations, and helping to identify and deliver engagement opportunities for the Hub team to promote its work effectively.
- Support on design and implementation of the Hub’s policies by establishing and maintaining standards, systems and procedures.
- Maintaining and developing the Hub’s community database including providing analysis and reporting on programs, partners and beneficiaries.
Academic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Relevant professional qualification
Professional Qualifications
- Member of a relevant professional Body
- Project Management Certification (PMP, Prince 2)
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years professional work experience at national and international levels.
SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrated skills in collaboration and cross-cultural communication.
- Project coordination experience related to research and data collection projects (quantitative and qualitative),
- Experience contributing to and coordinating the publication of research papers and reports in a regional (or global) context
- Experience in migration research, especially academic research and publications, and/or experience working in universities.
- Strong administrative and/or project management experience.
- Well organized with good attention to detail.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office systems,
- Demonstrated understanding of migration in situations of vulnerability, and the social political issues impacting migrants locally, regionally and globally. Lived experience of migration is highly desirable.
- Fluency in English required, with advanced skills in French highly desirable.
- Experience in managing social media accounts, content, newsletter
- High motivation, and dedication to deliver results within strict timeframes, in challenging environments.
Technical:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience with online/remote engagement.
- Possess strong analytical & critical thinking skills
- Considerable IT & MIS skills (MS Dynamics Navision and MS Office)
- Experience using online data collection tools and data analysis software
- Ability to perform under minimal supervision
- Ability to maintain high standards of personal integrity and be trustworthy
- Demonstrate ability to meet tight deadlines, analyze financial and operational data and information
- Understanding of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement and of its approaches to migration.
