Key Responsibilities:

  • i.  Provide strategic leadership in accordance with the mandate of the KEMRI;
  • ii. Official spokesperson of the organization and responsible for stakeholder management and the enhancement of the corporate image of the organization;
  • iii. Responsible for the execution and communication of the Board’s strategies, decision and policies;
  • iv. Manage the budget of the Institute and ensure that its funds are properly expended and accounted for;
  • v. The Principal executor of all KEMRI contracts;
  • vi. Ensure Development and implementation of an effective performance management system;
  • vii. Provide regular, thorough and prompt communication to the Board on key technical, financial and administrative matters;
  • viii. Ensure that the organization has effective management structure including succession plan;
  • ix. Provide leadership and vision to the organization by assisting the Board of Directors and staff with the development of the Strategic Plan, budgets and annual work plans;
  • x. Manage the day to day affairs and transactions of the Board of the Directors and coordinating the operations and administrative functions of the Institute;
  • xi. Lead, oversee and ensure the implementation, the Institute, of applicable Research standards in Kenya;
  • xii.  Oversee the activities of the Institute’s resources and ensure they are optimally utilized and fully accounted for in line with existing laws and regulations;
  • xiii. Provide Guidance and spearhead research activities in the institute in line with the best research practices globally;
  • xiv. Foster and maintain a conducive work environment, and enhance corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good corporate governance; and
  • xv. Maintain effective collaboration and partnerships with organs of Government and Government agencies, county Governments, international organizations, private sector, non-governmental organization and other Stakeholders

1 Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Management, procurement, Finance/Accounts or Human Resource Management from a recognized Institution Mandatory
2 Be a Kenyan youth below 30 years of age; Mandatory
3 Have graduated and in possession of the above-mentioned certificates; Mandatory
4 Attach a Copy of Identify Card (ID card); Mandatory
5 Provide a Certificate of good conduct; and Mandatory
6 Should have not undertaken any other internship or exposed to workplace experience related to their study area of study since graduating. Mandatory
7 Should possess interpersonal and communication skills Mandatory
8 Must be goal oriented, dynamic, passionate and self-starter Mandatory
9 A person of integrity Mandatory
10 Should possess strong analytical skills Mandatory
11 Must be computer literate. Mandatory
