POSITION: COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT (ONE POST)
REF NO: UBJ/COMM ASST/1/7/2024
GRADE: GRADE 10
STATION: KAKAMEGA COUNTY

JOB SUMMARY
The Communications Assistant will collaborate with the MEL and Technical teams to develop and distribute knowledge products using various communication technologies. The incumbent will support the implementation of USAID Boresha Jamii communication plan, disseminate information to diverse stakeholders through channels such as social media, websites, and community outreach programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications:

  1. Identify innovative communication platforms to showcase RMNCAH, Nutrition, and WASH work.
  2. Promote project materials on social media and create content that highlights project success.
  3. Support in documenting success stories through videos and photography.
  4. Manage social media platforms and update project website.
  5. Compile quarterly newsletters and share project updates.

Events Management Support:

  1. Assist in organizing project events and manage photography and videography needs.
  2. Maintain an events bank for various communication purposes.

Branding:

  1. Implement USAID Boresha Jamii Branding and Communication Plan.
  2. Design IEC materials (posters, flyers) using Adobe design suite.
  3. Increase project visibility through branding aligned with USAID guidelines.
  4. Package and disseminate knowledge products through digital and conventional media.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, public relations, or media studies.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in communications within a donor-funded organization.
  • Experience in managing social media platforms is required.
  • Registered with a relevant professional body (Communications or Public Relations).

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in photography and video editing.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver results.
  • Willingness to travel and work in field settings.
  • IT skills, especially in web platforms.

TERMS OF SERVICE

  • Initial one-year contract with possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability.
