Credit Analyst – Retail Credit
Credit – Nairobi, Nairobi
Purpose:
To ensure and maintain a high-quality Retail Loan book by appraising and approval of Retail Clients’ applications in line with the bank’s policies, making recommendations to the approving authorities for timely decisions.
Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks
Reviewing, analyzing, and vetting credit proposals and making recommendations to the approving authorities
- Ensure requisite documentation and checks are done prior to processing of the applications
- Ensure all applications are processed within benchmarked turnaround times
- Exercise diligence, independence, and good judgement in credit decision to ensure quality Retail Credit portfolio
- Ensure the applications meet the bank policies before recommendation for approvals
- Ensure all control checks required in review of retail applications are done prior to approval or recommendation for approval.
- Employer call back for employee verification for Workplace Banking applications and other products that require this as per process
- Enforcing compliance with the bank’s credit policies in daily operations.
Tracking and communication
- Ensure proper tracking and Monitoring of manual logs in application trackers and shared folders.
- Coordinate application movement process between branches and approving authorities.
Branch support with queries
- Guiding/advising branch staff, Relationship staff and DSEs on credit appraisal requirements for the credit products.
- Participate in Training frontline staff on the loan applications process
Portfolio management activities
- Review requests for Collateral release/substitution, partial liquidation Establishing conduct of existing facilities and obligations of the client and recommend for approval based on the request.
- Review of credit card due for renewals and recommending to the authority for approval.
- Providing feedback for bureau update files
Process Reviews and improvements
- Identifying areas of weakness and risks in credit process, policy improvements and escalation these to team leader
- Continuously review underwriting tools and recommend for improvement
Decision making and accountabilities
- Giving recommendation to the approvers on of credit facilities based on the analysis. Assessing the level of risk that a client presents to the bank and the client’s creditworthiness.
- Recommending improvements to policy rules and processes
- Vetting and reviewing Credit applications in a timely manner.
- Coordinating the process of movement of proposals and advising credit decisions between branches, approving authorities and customers.
- Providing feedback loop for any issues noted to inform policy decisions
Person Specifications
- Bachelor’s degree plus Professional qualification
- At least 4 to 6 years of work experience
- Knowledge of Retail Banking products
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Advanced financial risk analysis skills
- Credit risk management skills
- Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
