ILRI Hiring Research Associate III – Digital Agriculture and Innovation

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Research Associate III – Digital Agriculture and Innovation to support and facilitate the co-development of a DCAS tool called Intelligent Systems Advisory Tool (iSAT). The successful candidate will be expected to take lead in data collection, field work, FGDs as well as other data analysis activities in collaboration with other members and teams.

ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR Research Centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org

Responsibilities 

  • Assist in the coordination, execution and implementation of digital climate advisory project related activities in Kenya and Zambia.
  • Conduct data collection through fieldwork, farmer interviews/FGD and stakeholder consultations to collect both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Support in coordinating and organizing meetings, workshops and capacity building events for engaging stakeholders and partners effectively.
  • Contribute in documenting project progress and outcomes as per agreed deliverables.
  • Employ advanced analytical techniques to analyse and synthesize both qualitative and quantitative data from diverse sources and filter out key insights and recommendations.
  • Contribute to the translation of  complex technical information into formats tailored for a variety of non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in agronomy, agrometeorology, soil science, computer science, mathematical sciences, or any other relevant field.
  • Demonstrated skills in data analysis, data visualisation and communication.
  • Skills in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.
  • At least 5+ years of relevant experience in climate risk assessment and management.
  • Hands on work experience in digital agriculture.
  • Relevant field experience in the implementation of digital agriculture projects in Kenya.
  • Ability to work with partners and stakeholders and manage project activities successfully by setting realistic priorities and by developing detailed implementation plans.
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn and use new and emerging technologies.
  • Proficient in essential computer software/packages like Office suite, Statistical packages and other Web 2.0 Tools
  • Experience in crop modelling or agriculture advisory development is an added advantage.
  • Basic understanding of remote sensing tools is an added advantage.
  • Excellent proficiency of spoken and written English with strong writing skills.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision with a positive and constructive attitude.

Post location: The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya

Terms of Appointment

This position is at job level HG 12 and it is only open to Kenyan nationals. The position is a 3-year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding. ILRI offers a competitive salary and benefits package which includes pension, medical and other insurances.
