We are currently seeking a talented and dedicated Chef to join our team full-time at the Residence of the Ambassador of Ireland in Nairobi. This role is pivotal in our mission, as the Residence frequently hosts a range of esteemed guests from Kenyan and Irish public life, spanning small gatherings, formal dinners, and large-scale receptions.
Primary Responsibilities:
Menu Planning and Preparation
- Develop and execute diverse menus tailored to the needs of both official and private functions held at the Residence and the Embassy.
- Design innovative, visually appealing, and culturally reflective dishes that highlight Irish culinary heritage while accommodating guests’ dietary requirements.
Event Catering Management
- Manage the catering requirements for events of varying sizes, from intimate meals to large receptions. This includes overseeing all elements from budgeting to execution to ensure smooth and successful functions.
Kitchen Operations and Stock Management
- Oversee kitchen operations, including stock control, budget management, and event preparation, with a focus on minimizing waste and maintaining cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure the kitchen consistently upholds rigorous health, safety, and food hygiene standards.
Budgeting and Cost Management
- Track and account for all expenditures, adhering strictly to budget guidelines.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with other Embassy staff to coordinate requirements for events, contributing to the overall success of diplomatic and cultural activities at the Residence.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:

- Communication Skills: Fluent in English, with strong communication abilities to effectively coordinate with Embassy staff and event planners.
- Culinary Expertise: A diploma in culinary arts or a related field is essential, paired with at least five years of high-level experience (e.g., in diplomatic residences, hotels, or prestigious restaurants).
- Organizational Proficiency: Proven experience in planning, problem-solving, and resource management.
- Budget Management: Skilled in managing budgets to ensure cost-effectiveness without compromising quality.
- Flexibility and Discretion: Availability to work flexible hours and the capacity for discretion in handling sensitive situations and guest interactions.
- Professional Standards: Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and local food supply practices.
- Legal Requirement: Must possess legal authorization to work and reside in Kenya.
