Delegation of the European Union to Kenya Hiring Programme Officer Stability and Peace

The FPI Regional Team in Nairobi contributes to enhancing the EU’s crisis response and peace, stability and conflict prevention work in Eastern and Southern Africa, through actions financed from the EU’s Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI) – Global Europe. The Regional Team closely collaborates with EU Delegations in Eastern and Southern Africa, relevant external actors and with FPI and other services in Brussels to conceptualise, elaborate and implement activities to be funded through the NDICI Global Europe.

The Service reports directly to the HR/VP. The Service works in close cooperation with the other Commission services, as well as with the EEAS, both in headquarters and in delegations.
The EU Delegation in Nairobi represents the European Union in Kenya, working in close coordination with the Embassies of the EU Member States.

The FPI Regional Team in Nairobi contributes to enhancing the EU’s crisis response and peace, stability and conflict prevention work in Eastern and Southern Africa, through actions financed from the EU’s Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI) – Global Europe. The Regional Team in Nairobi is composed of 12 very motivated staff members. Team spirit, a strong sense of initiative and responsibility is a common feature of all unit members.

We propose
We propose an attractive and challenging position as a Programme Officer, primarily focusing on crisis response, conflict prevention and peacebuilding under NDICI-Global Europe in the Horn of Africa region, with a special focus on Ethiopia, Eritrea and multi-country/regional projects). The jobholder will also be requested to support, when needed, FPI actions in other countries in the Eastern and Southern Africa under other relevant NDICI components falling under the responsibility of FPI.

We look for
We look for an experienced, dynamic, motivated, reliable, well-organised person with a good team spirit and excellent planning and coordination skills. (S)He should be pro-active, flexible and able to organise the work independently with a strong sense of responsibility. (S)He should be able to adjust to multiple tasks even under tight deadlines.

A positive attitude, excellent writing and communication skills, excellent inter-personal skills and a good judgement are also essential as well as a good knowledge of EU financial and contractual procedures.

The candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience including at least 3 years’ experience in project management related to the areas/sectors related to international crisis response, peace, stability and conflict prevention. Geographic desk-work or EU Delegation (or equivalent) experience will be an advantage. A strong knowledge of the Horn of Africa region will be an advantage. An excellent knowledge of English is essential and a good command of French is an asset as well as the candidate’s readiness to carry out regular field missions to the country(ies) of assignment.

Security clearance: If not already acquired, the selected candidate should request it when taking up function.
