Key Purpose Statement
The primary role of the Process Artisan is operation of the process area according to work instructions, the execution of non-destructive quality checks and carrying out of routine maintenance. The process artisan has a primary focus on the asset care activities of the team.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Operational Support
- Providing support to the shift based teams during operations.
- Attending SBT and SBU meetings and ensures that the previous day’s actions have been actioned.
- Assisting shift based teams with situational problem solving.
- Coaching the shift based teams on machine operation, machine fault finding and correct responses to machine failure modes.
- Providing coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer of machine operation and maintenance to shift based teams.
- Reviewing SIC’s and address deviations regularly.
- Developing work instructions related to equipment.
- Monitoring and managing performance of equipment.
- Verifying and ensuring that machines are running at rated speed.
- Preparing and communicating shift handover reports to ensure production continuity.
- Participating in technical meetings and escalating issues that could not be resolved during the shift and following up to ensure gap closure.
- Standing in for the Production Team Leader where required.
Planned Maintenance
- Carrying out work during the planned maintenance window in accordance with the planned maintenance schedule issued by the Planner.
- Assisting fellow team members in the execution of their tasks during planned maintenance windows.
- Where required, partaking in maintenance post mortems to feedback problems, opportunities and learning’s from maintenance activities.
- Optimising of the maintenance schedules.
- Coaching and training operators on autonomous maintenance tasks.
- Reviewing line KPI’s to ensure that maintenance work is yielding the right results.
Routine Maintenance
- Partaking in cleaning, lubrication and inspection in accordance with the maintenance schedule issued by the Maintenance Planner.
- Carrying out routine maintenance activities in accordance with the maintenance schedule.
- Where problems have been uncovered during routine maintenance, these must be resolved using the appropriate problem solving techniques.
- Where problems have been uncovered, and it is required to include the work in the planned maintenance schedule, this must be communicated to the maintenance planner.
Running Repairs
- Carrying out running repairs on plant and equipment.
- When carrying out repairs, assess the problem and determine a course of action.
- Where running repairs cannot be carried out, communicates this to the Team Leader / Maintenance Planner to ensure the work is planned into the next planned maintenance window.
Problem Solving
- Applying the correct problem solving methodologies to resolve problems.
- Coaching operators on situational problem solving.
- Soliciting support for problems solving or escalate to the Team for direction.
- Where required, partake in systemic problem solving.
Housekeeping and safety
- Working in a safe manner at all times, and to identify and highlight unsafe work practices so that these may be corrected.
- Adhering to appropriate CCBA policies and procedures.
- Carrying out housekeeping tasks, and apply 5S principles during the execution of duties.
Support NPD implementation and trials:
- Supporting NPD trials to be able to run on assets.
- Ensuring adherence to NPD procedures.
- Ensuring all changes on assets are well documented as per the Engineering Change Management business processes.
Training and Development
- Training and coaching operators on asset care and autonomous maintenance practices.
- Where required; signing-off operators on autonomous maintenance tasks.
- Developing operational and technical standards and work instructions.
Skills, Experience & Education
Qualifications
Minimum Requirement
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
Experience
Work Experience
- Minimum 2 years in an FMCG, bottling or food processing plant.
- PLC experience will be an added advantage.
Specific Experience
- Minimum 2 years in a similar role or Machine Operator role.
Knowledge
- All aspects of packaging operations and process controls.
