Job Purpose
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of climate and prosperity teams based in Nairobi and London. Reporting to the Prosperity and Climate team in Nairobi, the role is split equally between the Prosperity and Climate team and the Africa Regional Climate and Nature (ARCAN) Programme within the Africa Programme and Expertise (APEX) Department.

You will manage grants supporting programmes addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, renewable energy, and economic prosperity in East Africa. This role involves building and maintaining relationships with partners, ensuring financial and risk management, and supporting the delivery of impactful projects aligned with UK policy objectives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Partner Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partners, including suppliers, donors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary contact for programme management issues.
  • Communicate effectively with partners, articulating UK policy and how it aligns with managed programmes.

2. Grant Management

  • Apply the Programme Operating Framework (PrOF) consistently and effectively.
  • Support drafting of financial and commercial cases for new business cases and reviews.
  • Conduct due diligence assessments and provide funding recommendations.
  • Prepare and finalise all project documentation, including financing instruments.
  • Advise on programme milestones and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Develop and monitor results frameworks, ensuring effective programme delivery.

3. Risk Management

  • Develop and maintain risk management processes.
  • Ensure risks are reviewed quarterly and escalated appropriately.
  • Establish mechanisms to detect and manage fraud and corruption risks with implementing partners.

4. Financial Management

  • Oversee programme budgets and ensure accurate financial forecasting.
  • Monitor partner forecasts and address performance issues where necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with financial requirements, including linking payments to narrative reports.
  • Promote value-for-money measures and ensure zero tolerance for fraud and corruption.

5. Lesson Learning and Communication

  • Monitor partner reports, share key lessons, and incorporate evidence into programme delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with UK branding guidance and develop impactful communication products in collaboration with partners and the BHC Communications Team.

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Proven experience in managing programmes, including finance and risk management.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams concurrently.
  • Proactive approach and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Skills and Experience
