Salary and Benefits

Starting Salary: 753,547 KES per month (gross)

Additional Benefits:

Enjoy 25 days of annual leave, excluding public holidays, and comprehensive medical insurance that covers your spouse and up to four biological or legally adopted children under 18 years.

The insurance includes outpatient coverage of KES 250K, inpatient coverage of KES 2M, and dental and optical coverage of KES 40K each. An annual general check-up of KES 30K is also included, with detailed coverage information available upon request.

Flexible working options are available, including home working and flexible hours. The working hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm from Monday to Thursday, and 8:00 am to 1:00 pm on Fridays. Role Purpose:

Join the global Total Reward ‘centre of expertise’ team as one of four regional business partners. Contribute to the development of global reward strategies and lead their local implementation in the Sub-Saharan and Africa, and Middle East and North Africa regions.

Support regions/business units in attracting, recruiting, retaining, and motivating talent by operationalizing reward processes like pay reviews, bonus schemes, benefits programs, and job evaluation.

Role Context:

  • The global Total Reward team are a ‘centre of expertise’ team within the People function with responsibility for developing and adapting Total Reward Strategy and ‘Principles’ and quickly developing solutions to Total Reward issues as they arise.
  • This role will partner with regional leadership teams and the business units that sit within them on reward matters – this will range from large country operations where we have significant commercial operations to smaller countries where we only have a small number of colleagues. 
  • The role-holder will need to engage with regional leadership teams and will have a strong matrix management line to Heads of People Services and Solutions (geographic hubs) to ensure reward principles and practice are aligned with local needs.
  • The role-holder will have responsibility for the tactical implementation of operational reward processes – to do this they will need to work closely with People advisory and operations teams as well as the central reporting team.

Main Accountabilities:

Professional Services Expertise:

  • To utilise their knowledge of British Council total reward strategy, principles and processes to be able to tactically implement reward initiatives (including pay and benefits) and processes locally in the regions, that are aligned to the overall reward strategy and principles but adapted to local and business unit strategic contexts.
  • Role-holder will be expected to utilise their external total reward knowledge and experience to contribute to developing and adapting global, business unit and regional reward strategies, principles and processes.

Consultancy, Analysis, and Problem Solving:

  • Contributing to the development of and utilising reward data dashboards and data analytics (including external market data) to provide insight to business unit/regional leadership teams to help them make evidence-based reward decisions.

Relationship and Stakeholder Management:

  • To maintain tactical relationships with regional and business unit leadership teams so as to provide insightful total reward expert advice and also to incorporate their views into global and regional reward strategy and process development.

Role-Specific Skills:

  • Data Literacy: Use data to make informed decisions (Developing).
  • Business Acumen: Interpret external business trends and organizational factors (Developing).
  • Digital Agility: Integrate technology to build efficient HR solutions (Developing).
  • People Advocacy: Ensure ethical conduct and compliance (Developing).
  • Execution Excellence: Implement adaptive plans to achieve results (Developing).

Role-Specific Knowledge and Experience:

Minimum/essential

  • Experience of working in a multinational and multi-cultural organisation and working across multiple lines of business/divisions in a matrix approach
  • Experience of working in consultancy level Total Reward roles in a multi-national, corporate or consulting environment
  • Experience of contributing to reward design and the implementation of new reward initiatives for commercial organisations
  • Experience of utilising HR and reward data and analytics to inform reward strategy and design work and provide insights to business leaders

Professional Qualification and Certification

  • Evidence of completing Total Reward specific CIPD (or equivalent e.g. World at Work) formal training (e.g. pay structure design, developing reward strategies, communicating reward practice)

Language Requirements: Proficiency in English (written and verbal).
