Purpose
Informed media coverage is crucial for advancing agroecology. Journalists can play a pivotal role by showcasing agroecological practices, innovations, and bridging the knowledge gap between scientific research and practical application. BvAT seeks to support journalists who will:
- Cover production costs (including travel) and connect with resource experts for interviews.
- Receive training on agroecology principles, interview techniques, storytelling, and multimedia production.
- Engage in data-driven, investigative journalism that empowers farmers and other key stakeholders in agroecology.
Note: BvAT holds no responsibility for the content produced by the journalists but retains the right to use published materials for promotional purposes, with appropriate accreditation.
Application Requirements
Interested journalists should submit proposals covering:
- Content Production Plan: Outline how you plan to develop and publish content that engages smallholder farmers. Re-publishing on social media and other platforms is encouraged for broader reach.
- Experience: Demonstrate experience in at least one of the following – writing, video/TV content production, radio programming in Kiswahili, vernacular languages, or community radio, with a commitment to agroecology and high-quality journalism.
- Fieldwork Plan: Specify proposed fieldwork locations (Central, Rift Valley, Lower Eastern, or Western Kenya) and describe how you’ll involve farmers and Biovision’s field staff.
- Timeline and Budget: The assignment should take no more than 1.5 months. Include a detailed budget that covers all content development costs.
- Focus on ICIPE Innovations: Proposals that explore innovations developed by icipe are highly encouraged.
