Job Description:
1. Specimen Preparation:
- Receive, log, and accurately handle tissue specimens.
- Perform fixation, dehydration, clearing, embedding, sectioning, and staining of tissue samples.
- Ensure timely processing to meet diagnostic and research needs.
2. Sectioning and Staining:
- Utilize microtomes to cut tissue sections for slide mounting.
- Execute routine and specialized staining techniques as required.
- Maintain stringent quality control of staining procedures for accurate diagnosis.
3. Equipment Maintenance:
- Operate and maintain histology equipment (tissue processors, embedding centers, microtomes, stainers).
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and ensure equipment performance.
4. Quality Control and Assurance:
- Adhere to laboratory protocols and procedures to uphold quality standards.
- Actively participate in quality control and assurance programs.
- Maintain meticulous documentation of all tests and procedures.
5. Safety and Compliance:
- Follow strict laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including biohazardous materials handling and disposal.
- Engage in continuous education and training to stay updated with safety practices.
6. Communication and Collaboration:
- Effectively communicate with pathologists, laboratory staff, and healthcare professionals.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of new laboratory personnel.
- Collaborate with other departments to optimize patient care and outcomes.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field.
- Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) preferred.
- Proven experience in histology techniques and laboratory operations.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
