Associate Director-Human Resource and Talent Development

Reporting to: – Company Directors.
Location: – Optiven Group Headquarters, Nairobi.

The firm has a number of flourishing Strategic Business Units (SBUs) that include Optiven Real Estate,  Optiven Homes, and Optiven Water. It has also gained a foothold into the hospitality industry with its GMC Place in Kitengela and  food franchises Eagle Peak Spur.

Optiven also has a soft arm, which undertakes charity works, by the name Optiven Foundation. The Foundation has so far been involved in numerous philanthropic works in its quest to transform the social well-being of thousands of Kenyans.

To help drive the company’s agenda as well stated in its vision and Mission, we are seeking to hire a matureexperienced, self-driven and results oriented candidate to fill in the role of Associate Director, Human Resource and Talent Development.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Company Directors, the Associate Director Human Resource and Talent Development will be responsible for developing the company’s human resource plans, support the human factor in the company, oversee human resource initiatives, and ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.

S/he will supervise staff, handle employment relations, and analyze data to report on human resource metrics for informed decision-making with the goal of creating and maintaining consistency and alignment of the human resources work within the HR Strategic Plan and in support of the Mission, Vision, Strategic Plan and Values of the company.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Delivery of the human resource strategy for Optiven Group company.
  • Strong and effective partner to the company directors and other peers in leadership team, acting as formal and informal coach as needed on all employee relations matters.
  • Support the building of high-performance culture in leadership teams throughout the business, recognizing the need for talent upgrade where required and supporting any vital changes and transitions.
  • Input into wider Human resource agenda to ensure that the business is not overwhelmed with conflicting or too many Human resource initiatives.
  • Working with the leadership team ensure appropriate focus on Diversity and Inclusion developing local activity and initiatives to address inequities and create a more diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Ensure there is a clear, compelling, and well-articulated people proposition ensuring that all employees and team leaders understand what is expected of them, what they are responsible and accountable for delivering and what behaviors are expected.
  • Conduct research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organization’s human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system.
  • Monitor and ensure the organization’s compliance with local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
  • Working in partnership with the human resource team, one team regardless of reporting lines.
  • Accountable for shaping, influencing, and implementing people changes and projects, as part of the business growth agenda.

Key Outcomes.

  • Develop and sustain successful stakeholder and peer relationships, becoming an integral part of the Optiven Group leadership teams, building strong relationships with human resource counterparts and other key stakeholder groups.
  • Inspire change and transformation programs with a successful for outcome on time and on budget.
  • Development and delivery of ambitious people and talent strategy for business, focused on building the capability to deliver the business goals for the future as well as what is currently required.
  • Overlooking Organizational Development and Organizational Transformation.
  • Effectively use data and analytics to provide insights on important trends and recommend or influence decisions.

Education and Experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Arts, or a related field required.
  • Must have MBA in Strategic Human Resource Management or a related field.
  • Must be certified Human Resource Professional certification-CHRP(K) and also a full member of IHRM.
  • At least 10 years’ experience working in Human Resources in a senior managerial level.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience and functional knowledge in recruiting/staffing, employee relations, employee development and retention, compensation, benefits, performance management, and talent management required.
  • Comprehensive experience in significant or large organizations and which operate in within matrix structures.
  • Well-developed senior level experience, demonstrably at human resource development level or equivalent in strategic business units.
  • Strong background in developing and implementing human resource strategy, talent planning (recruitment, career management and succession planning), organizational design, organizational transformation and development, workforce planning, talent acquisition.
  • Demonstrable experience in having led end-to-end human resources functions, within highly transformative and agile environments that are not process driven.

  • Relationship builder: Builds Strategic Working Relationships and Develops and uses collaborative relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals.
  • Communication: Expresses information through a variety of media that is appropriate and concise; uses communication to engage the audience, can engage and inspire people at all levels: winning hearts and minds
  • Planning and Organizing: Establishes appropriate course of action for self and/or others to accomplish a specific goal; plans proper assignments of personnel and appropriate allocation of resources.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands, work under time pressures and meet deadlines.
