APHRC Hiring Quantitative Field Interviewers (Familea Project & Kenya Abortion Study) 

The APHRC seeks to recruit Quantitative Field Interviewers in one of its projects, The Remaking of the Family in East Africa (FamilEA). The project’s main objective is to map out the shifting family landscape of residents in Nairobi, including family networks based outside the city, which is termed the family archipelago. As such, the project will adopt a mixed methods (quantitative-qualitative) approach that will extend beyond the household and conjugal family to the extended family and family-like relationships, such as friendships.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mobilize study participants in accordance with the predefined criteria outlined in the study guidelines.
  • Conduct quantitative in-person interviews with study participants.
  • Edit and submit data for completed interviews for daily cross-checking and verification by the designated team leader.
  • Fill in and submit daily field reports/timesheets.
  • Attend all scheduled training sessions and progress meetings.
  • Ensure the safety and responsible handling of all study tools and equipment provided for the interviews.
  • Assist the research team in other project-related activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, with a minimum grade of C Plain.
  • Fluency in Swahili and English, both written and oral.
  • Experience in electronic data collection methods like survey CTO or Open Data Kit (ODK).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (spoken and written) skills.
  • Must be prepared to work full-time on the project for the duration of the pilot study.
  • Must be a current resident of Nairobi.
  • Ability to adhere to protocols and guidelines for data collection.

The APHRC invites applications for Quantitative Field Interviewers in its Kenya Abortion Study. This is a national survey to estimate the incidence of abortion and the severity of abortion-related complications in Kenya.  We seek to recruit highly qualified and experienced field interviewers to support data collection for the respondent-driven survey (RDS) component of the study.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identification and screening of the RDS participants using a standardized eligibility criteria.
  • Obtain and document informed consent from study participants prior to the interviews.
  • Conduct interviews with all recruited study participants, and review collected data to ensure all questions are completed prior to online submission.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Principal Investigator.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, with a minimum grade of C Plain. A diploma or degree in any health related courses is an added advantage.
  • Ability to conduct quantitative interviews in both Swahili and English.
  • Have experience in data collection using electronic data capture platforms.
  • Proven past working experience on quantitative research projects on Sexual and Reproductive Health preferably abortion-related projects.
  • Be available to work full time on the project for the duration of the study.
