The Teachers Service Commission is pleased to announce the recruitment of 20,000 teacher internship posts to support the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum.
These positions include 18,000 posts in Junior Secondary Schools and 2,000 posts in Primary Schools. Interested and qualified candidates are encouraged to submit their applications online through the Commission’s website, www.tsc.go.ke, under the “Careers” section or teachersonline.tsc.go.ke.
The deadline for applications is 18th July 2023.
A. JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHER INTERNS
To be eligible for recruitment as a Junior Secondary School Teacher Intern, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
i) Be a Kenyan citizen.
ii) Hold a diploma in education with a minimum mean Grade of C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in two teaching subjects in KCSE or its equivalent.
iii) Be a registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission.
Please note:
a) Applicants with equivalent qualifications should refer to the Teachers Service Commission’s website, www.tsc.go.ke, for more information on teacher internships in Post Primary Institutions for the year 2023/2024.
b) Teachers from TVET institutions are strongly encouraged to apply.
B. PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER INTERNS
To qualify for recruitment as a Primary School Teacher Intern, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
i) Be a Kenyan citizen.
ii) Hold a PI Certificate.
iii) Be a registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission.
Please note that teachers with an Upgrade Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (CBC) will have an added advantage.
GENERAL INFORMATION
i) Manual applications will not be considered.
ii) The Commission’s Guidelines for Recruitment of Teacher Interns for the 2023/2024 Financial Year will apply.
iii) Applicants must be unemployed and should not have previously been employed by the Commission as an intern or on permanent and pensionable terms.
iv) Candidates will be required to present original academic and professional certificates during the selection process.
v) Successful candidates must have Personal Accident Insurance to cover personal risks during the internship period.
vi) Selection of candidates will be based strictly on merit and the number of vacancies per county.
vii) Successful candidates should only accept one offer of internship.
viii) Successful candidates will be posted to serve in any primary or junior secondary school within the county where they were interviewed or in any part of the country where vacancies exist.
ix) Junior Secondary School interns will be required to teach various learning areas under the Junior Secondary Curriculum.

NOTE:
The Teacher Internship Programme is a one-year program designed to equip and enhance the competencies of individuals entering the teaching service.
The program aims to provide mentorship, coaching, and practical teaching experience to unemployed registered teachers assigned to learning institutions.
DURATION OF INTERNSHIP
The internship period will be twelve (12) months.
MONTHLY STIPEND FOR TEACHER INTERNS
Although this is not a remunerative engagement, teacher interns attached to Primary Schools will be eligible for a monthly stipend of Kshs. 15,000/=, while those attached to Junior Secondary Schools will receive a monthly stipend of Kshs. 20,000/=. The stipend will be paid after statutory deductions, where applicable.
INTERNSHIP CERTIFICATE
Upon successful completion of the Internship Programme, teacher interns will be awarded a certificate.
