Some pointers for job seekers,
If you are sending your CV to an email, that you were given,
1. Do not send an email using google drive. Most clients may be using third party mail servers, this ends up asking the receiver of email to request access to the attachment. Not everyone will request you for
access, they will simply pass your CV.
2. Do not simply attach a CV and send, without even saying Hi, or signing off.
It’s courteous to introduce yourself and let the receiver know why you are sending the email.
For example;
Dear Sir/Madam,
I came across your job advert on……
……………………………………………….
Attached please find my CV for your consideration.
Kindly contact me on 0720-****** should you need more info or clarification. I look forward to your
kind feedback
Kind regards*****or Sincerely
If you simply attach a pdf or word document, without saying anything about it, trust me, chances of you
being called are 1/10. Attaching a CV and cover letter with no accompanying message will most likely drive your CV to a shredder, not to the recruiting agent’s/HR Manager’s desk.
3. No such a thing as a standard cover letter or cv.
4. You must tailor make your cv and cover letter to answer the job posting
5. Enough time should be invested to write a proper CV and cover letter
6. Then leave it overnight and relook at it the next day with a fresh eye make adjustments before
sending out.
7. Never ever please cut and paste!
8. It’s not how many jobs that you apply for that matters it’s whether you have taken time to understand the requirements and what you bring to the table for the employer.
9. What’s your value add, what do you have that others applying don’t have?
10. Is your grammar proper and make sure no spelling mistakes in your application.
11. Have you done your background research on the organization your applying to.
12. Finally, Faith, positive mind set and a go getter attitude.
