Move over, Gal Gadot… there’s a new hero in town. Or at least there will be, according to James Gunn. A new Wonder Woman movie is in the not-too-distant future, and we think we know who should play her.
With Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984 now in the rearview mirror, the future for DC’s most famous female superhero has been uncertain. Sure, we saw her in Justice League and Batman v Superman, but plans for a Wonder Woman 3 were scrapped as of 2022.
Fast forward three years and James Gunn has stepped in to reshape the DC universe entirely. His take on Superman is already coming out on July 11, 2025, but he’s not stopping there.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gunn has confirmed a Wonder Woman movie is in the works. But with casting still a long way off, we’ve got the perfect suggestion for who should pick up Gadot’s mantle.
Adria Arjona is the perfect choice for James Gunn’s Wonder Woman
Behold: Adria Arjona. The Hit Man and Andor actress has already proved she has the action chops, and she already has ties to Gunn himself.
You might remember the 2016 horror movie The Belko Experiment, which Gunn wrote and served on as a producer. Arjona can be seen in the film’s cast, which follows the story of dozens of co-workers being locked in a building, forced to fight each other to the death.
This alone should be enough to stand Arjona in good contention for a DC role, even if that doesn’t end up being Wonder Woman. But let’s also remember new boyfriend Jason Momoa is Aquaman – so surely the literal king of the sea could pull some strings.
She’s a firm favorite fan casting, too. “Adria Arjona as Wonder Woman. I want it. I need it. We want it. We need it. Please James Gunn,” one fan posted on X/Twitter after the news dropped.
“JAMES GUNN CAST ADRIA ARJONA AS WONDER WOMAN AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!!!” a second weighed in, with a third agreeing, “When she lands the role I don’t think I’m going to be okay, I legitimately might pass away man… THAT’S MY WONDER WOMAN RIGHT THERE! Adria Arjona.”
DC Comics“Wonder Woman’s a separate thing” to Paradise Lost HBO Max series, which is “slow moving, but it’s moving,” Gunn told EW. “We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman’s being written right now.”
Gunn also confirmed he has not yet cast the role, clarifying Superman, Batman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman are currently the most important four characters in the franchise.
“I think that he got that from something I said. I wouldn’t say only those four characters, but I would say that those four characters are incredibly important to us. Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are, and then we’re dealing with the other two.”
