The movie business is not doing as well as it used to. Sure, there are still hit movies like Sinners coming out, but it feels like the culture around film has gotten weaker over the years, and the box office is not what it used to be. Maybe it’s because people have so many other choices at their fingertips, but folks aren’t going to theaters like the old days. Instead, they’re waiting for movies to hit streaming, and it seems like the old reliable genres, like superhero movies, just aren’t checking the boxes like they once were. Indeed, both big Marvel movies this year are looking at losses in excess of $100 million apiece for the studio. That’s A LOT of red ink. People seem way more interested in other things, like the videogame industry, which is bigger than both the movie and music industries combined!
