Mario Kart World players have already discovered an Easter Egg on the map, but one that has arguably the biggest impact on gameplay out of any so-called “Easter Egg” that’s ever been put in a video game: It mirrors the entire open world. All of it. Additionally, there’s a hidden set of missions that unlocks Mirror Mode for races.
Normally, Easter Eggs are a small nod to another game, or perhaps the devs leaving their own mark and a small hint for players. They’re normally fun little finds that have little impact on the game.
However, Mario Kart World has a secret within its map that allows players to flip the entire map into mirror mode, changing every single course in one fell swoop. It’s also got a set of missions the players can complete to unlock mirrored races.
Here’s how to mirror the entire map in Mario Kart World.
Mirror Mode Easter Egg guide in Mario Kart World
While the player can unlock Mirror Mode for races by reaching certain criteria in the game, there is a way to fast-track it: Driving into the stained glass Peach portrait in free roam.
This will make it so that, for the duration of your free roam, you get to play on a mirrored map. However, due to Mirror Mode being an unlock for races that requires a hefty number of achievements.
So, how do you unlock this mode for races permanently?
How to unlock Mirror Mode for races
Since Mario Kart World is a relatively new game, it isn’t clear what the exact minimum requirements are. The mode is unlocked via a secret cutscene that doesn’t have any sort of in-game mission attached to it. Many players who got it to trigger already had Gold stars in every race, but the actual requirements aren’t nearly as taxing.
Here’s what the minimum requirements for the Mirror Mode unlock are:
- Bronze or higher in all 150CC Grand Prix tours
- 4th or higher in all Knockout tours
- 10 ? panels
- 10 P switches
- 10 Peach Medallions
- Complete the special cup with a podium finish
- You have to do this step last in order to get the cutscene to trigger
We won’t spoil that final cutscene so you can experience it for yourself once you get there.
