The Fourth Trial of Aql in Dune: Awakening is one of the most confusing and punishing parts of the “Find the Fremen” questline.
Players often get stuck not because the fight is too hard, but because they can’t even find the entrance. The path is hidden behind broken terrain, misleading rock faces, and vertical climbs that demand precise movement and tech mastery.
I’ve been through it, tested every route, and figured out exactly what works. This guide breaks down both the path to the summit and the mechanics of the trial itself so you can stop wandering and start winning.
Fourth Trial location
The Fourth Trial is located in the Eastern Vermillius Gap, inside a towering, hammer-shaped rock formation called The Hammer or Mirzabah’s Head. You’re looking for the tallest, most diamond-like spire in the region; it’s hard to miss once you’re nearby.
Start your journey at the base of The Hammer, where you’ll find broken stairs and platforming elements leading up. If you have Shigawire Grappling (from the Trooper class) or Emperor’s Wings, these will make the climb much easier.
Here’s how to climb:
- Grapple outward, not directly up.
- As you swing, press and hold Spacebar to maintain your momentum and arc upward.
- Use this rhythm to chain grapples and leap higher without touching the wall.
Follow the signs: ropes, carvings, bodies, and crumbling platforms. They’ll lead you to the correct route. At the summit, you’ll find an intact Aql Altar in the so-called Hollow Hammer. Interact with it to begin the trial.
How to solve the Fourth Trial
This trial is a combat endurance challenge. When you pick up the Crysknife at the center of the arena, waves of spectral enemies will attack. You cannot heal, so every hit counts.
Here are some tips:
- Dodge and parry carefully: timing matters more than aggression.
- The trial is designed so that you will eventually fall. This is scripted. Your job is to fight skillfully and survive as long as possible.
- Midway through, you’ll Awaken Prescience, a powerful state that enhances abilities, reduces cooldowns, and provides poison immunity. Use it to mow down waves with precision.
After defeat, you’ll enter Spice Withdrawal, but you’ll unlock:
