Helldivers 2 players are grieving their fictional president after he sadly fell to the alien invaders that are currently wreaking havoc across Super Earth.
Soldiers from across the globe have been fighting together to save Super Earth from the clutches of the Illuminate, Squid-like enemies who want to claim the planet for their cause. The urban fights have been so fierce that despite troopers’ best efforts, every major city besides Equality-on-Sea and Prosperity City has fallen.
Despite losing so much ground, soldiers have been able to land critical blows to the enemy. Just yesterday, players discovered that Super Earth had managed to destroy multiple large Illuminate spacecraft, which has weakened the alien forces considerably.
However, despite dealing a critical blow to the alien invaders, armchair troopers have now been left saddened by the death of their fictional president.

“The President of Super Earth has been killed in action by the Illuminate, during the siege of Prosperity City,” reads the in-game message. “The president died heroically, defending the Presidential Security bunker with only a pistol against waves of Illuminate foes.”
The post notes that Presidential authority has now been placed in the Minister of Defence. Following the news, thousands of players have flooded the Helldivers 2 Reddit page to mourn the loss of their in-game leader.
“He was sick of these filthy squids invading his beloved Super Earth and decided to fight them to the death,” wrote one player, barely holding back tears. “A true patriot whom we never knew, but always trusted like a true Super Earth high-level citizen should. Long live Super Earth and its heroic martyrs!”
“NOT THE SUPER PRESIDENT, NOOOOOO!!!!!” screamed one Helldiver, their voice breaking with emotion. “He’s been my favorite President ever since the first time the voting machine determined he was most closely matched with my beliefs. Finally, a politician who believes in all the things I do and none of the things I don’t, and these b*stard squids killed him for it!”
With their beloved leader now being nothing more than worm food (squid food?), it remains uncertain how the good people of Super Earth will fare in the fights to come. For now, though, the capital and in-game city of Shanghai remain the last line of defence.
