Formation
BWitched was formed in 1997 when twin sisters Edele and Keavy Lynch, who had a passion for music and dance from a young age, decided to create a girl group.
They were soon joined by Lindsay Armaou, a talented musician, and Sinéad O’Carroll, who had performance experience.
The group initially performed under “Butterfly Farm” before settling on the more catchy “BWitched.” Their break came when they signed with Epic Records, a division of Sony, in 1998.
Career
B*Witched’s debut single, “C’est La Vie,” was released in 1998 and became an international hit, reaching number one in the UK and charting in the top 10 in numerous countries.
Their self-titled debut album, *BWitched (1998), followed soon after and also achieved significant commercial success, featuring other hits like “Rollercoaster” and “To You I Belong.”
B*Witched became the first girl group to debut their first four singles at number one on the UK Singles Chart.
The band’s blend of upbeat pop with traditional Irish instrumentation, like fiddles, and their playful, carefree image made them popular among younger audiences.
Their second album, Awake and Breathe (1999) showed a more mature side, but despite its initial success, it didn’t quite match the impact of their debut.
By 2002, the pop landscape was shifting, and B*Witched faced challenges with record label changes. They disbanded in the early 2000s, but their music remained a nostalgic staple for fans of 1990s pop.
In 2012, the band reunited for ITV’s The Big Reunion show, which chronicled the reformations of popular ’90s bands.
This successful reunion led to the release of new music, including the Champagne or Guinness EP in 2014, and live performances across the UK and beyond.
