Melissa Barrera, who was fired from “Scream 7” for supporting Palestine, acquired over 400,000 Instagram followers in less than 48 hours.

Melissa Barrera, the actress of the Scream franchise, was sacked by Spyglass Media Group from her major part in the upcoming Scream 7, according to Deadline. This came after Barrera expressed support for Palestinian liberation and denounced Israel’s continued assault in Gaza in the wake of the October 7 Hamas onslaught in nearby Israeli towns. Regarding the ongoing destruction in Gaza, Barrera has shared hundreds of quotes, articles, tweets, videos, infographics, and news items to her Instagram Stories since October 14. She has also included her own thoughts, such as “I love my Jewish friends. I stand with you in these horrible times. I empathize with your fear and pain. No one deserves to be persecuted or attacked.” And “All Jewish people are NOT the Israeli Govt. Do not blame, or hate on, a whole group of people because of what some are doing. I stand with all those caught in the crossfire.”

In a statement provided to bouncenationkenya.com on November 22, Spyglass Media Group called some of her reposts a violation of its “zero tolerance” policy against “antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion, or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”
As of now, it’s unclear exactly what the status of the next entry in the Scream franchise is. Alongside Barrera, the most recent two entries have starred Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding as the four main members of the new era of Scream.

However, Ortega’s role in the upcoming film also remains up in the air, due to her huge rise in popularity. After her breakout role in Netflix’s Wednesday, rumors began to circulate that Ortega wouldn’t be in the next Scream. Those were later countered by other reports that she would be. However, neither Paramount nor Ortega have commented on the film’s status.
