Everything we know about Invincible VS

Invincible is getting a fighting game developed by the minds behind Killer Instinct. Here’s everything you need to know about it, including its characters, mechanics, and more.

Invincible VS was revealed in the Xbox Games Showcase during Summer Game Fest 2025, giving fans of the bloody superhero series even more to sink their teeth into.

This title joins a new resurgence of tag fighters in the space, alongside Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls and Riot’s 2XKO League of Legends fighting game.

There’s a lot to unpack, and the game isn’t even fully finished yet. Here’s what we know so far, including insights garnered from our visit to Skybound Studios a few weeks prior to Invincible VS’s grand reveal.

Who is developing Invincible VS?

Invincible VS is developed by Quarter Up, an in-house game development studio led by former members of Double Helix Games’ Killer Instinct team. Their name, Quarter Up, references the time-honored tradition of stacking a quarter on an arcade cabinet to claim the next game.

There’s quite a bit of DNA from KI in Invincible VS, but the devs at Quarter Up told us they’re working closely with the show’s animators and creators within the exact same studio at Skybound to make sure it retains everything fans know and love about the series.

What characters are in Invincible VS? Roster so far

Thus far, only a handful of playable characters have been confirmed for Invincible VS:

  • Omni-Man
  • Invincible
  • Bulletproof
  • Atom Eve
  • Rex Splode
  • Thula
  • Lucen

Given that this is a 3v3 fighting game and the sheer wealth of characters in the Invincible universe, there’s no telling who will be featured in the full game when it eventually releases.

Invincible VS has a growing cast of characters in its pre-alpha build, with more to come.

Invincible VS mechanics

Invincible VS is a 2D 3v3 tag fighting game, meaning that players will control three characters per match and be able to tag into another character at certain points.

Focus on Combos

During our time mashing buttons on the game’s pre-alpha build at Skybound Studios, Quarter Up’s developers told us they want players to focus on tagging and combos, feeling as though most tag games become ‘single-player’ experiences with endless combo loops after a while.

As such, Invincible VS has a special combo meter that maxes out and stops your string after a certain number of hits. However, if you tag in another character, that meter expands, allowing you to deal more damage.

Developers at Quarter Up told Dexerto they want players to focus on the tag system, finding that many tag fighters in the space become ‘single-player games’ after a while.

Sudden Death

When the timer runs out and no character has died, players enter a ‘Sudden Death’ phase. In this phase, there is no timer — instead, your health bar is the timer. Your health bar gradually depletes unless you hit your opponent, and the first one to lose all their health loses the round.

Special moves & more

Special moves are mapped to a single button, but change depending on whether the player holds a certain direction. This is a continuing trend that fighting game players will have seen in titles like GranBlue Fantasy VS and DNF Duel. While this might give some hardcore players pause, Invincible VS has a wealth of other mechanics that render it approachable, yet complex.

Characters all have normal moves that can be charged as well, allowing for more damage or different properties. There is a button specifically for dashing, and some characters — like Atom Eve — can hover indefinitely.

Some characters in Invincible VS, like Atom Eve, can hover indefinitely, opening up unique gameplay scenarios.

Throwing is as normal (think a two-button press like Street Fighter, etc) — but back-throws are simply side-switches and open up opponents for more combos. It doesn’t send them to the ground and reset the fight to neutral.

Character interactions and breakable stages

Each of Invincible VS’s characters load in with unique interactions depending on who they’re fighting against, allowing for some hilarious conversations reminiscent of Injustice 2.

Characters in Invincible VS have hilarious interactions depending on who they’re fighting against. They’ve also got a ton of personality consistent with the comics, seen in Mark’s mid-game taunt.

The game boasts two different types of stages — those that break apart and descend into chaos as the fight progresses, and those that stay static. There’s also a special mechanic that, when executed correctly, completely changes the stage, sending characters flying to another locale in the middle of a round.

Of course, what we got to play was a pre-alpha version of the game, and we were reminded that some of these mechanics are subject to change.

Invincible VS release window & all platforms

Invincible VS is set for release in 2026 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.

While we don’t have an exact release date yet, we’ll be sure to keep you posted with further details as they emerge.
