Everything we know about High on Life 2: Release window, platforms, story details & more

High on Life 2, a sequel to the Rick and Morty-esque comedy FPS, has been officially announced. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming title.

Despite the controversy surrounding co-creator Justin Roiland when the original game came out, it was still a very successful title for Xbox and other platforms. High on Life was much more focused on comedy and wacky gameplay concepts than re-inventing the wheel, and it found a big audience because of it.

So big, in fact, that they’ve got a sequel greenlit, and it looks to have a very similar sense of humor and a much bigger scale.

Here’s everything we know about High on Life 2.

High on Life 2 release window

High on Life’s release window is Winter 2025/2026. Microsoft didn’t clarify whether Winter meant late 2025 or early 2026, so there’s a chance we won’t see this game until early next year.

However, it will be a day 1 Game Pass title.

Platforms

High on Life 2 will be a true Xbox exclusive, not even coming to Steam. Those who want to play the game without PC Game Pass will have to purchase it from the Xbox PC store.

Trailers

So far, High on Life 2 only has one trailer: The official reveal.

It has some live-action elements mixed into pre-rendered gameplay of you skateboarding around a futuristic alien city that’ll look familiar to fans of the first game.

High on Life 2 story details

Not much is known about High on Life 2’s story just yet, but there is one detail worth noting: Some of the weapons from the first game have already returned.

Knifey, Gus, and Kenny were all seen in the reveal trailer, showing that some of the characters will be coming back in some way, shape, or form. These weapons, called Gatlians, are getting a whole lot more variety in this new game, and it’s safe to assume they’ve have larger-than-life personalities just like the first game’s arsenal.

Is Justin Roiland involved in High on Life 2?

So far, it isn’t clear how, if at all, Justin Roiland is involved in the second game. His name wasn’t presented anywhere in the reveal trailer, and he left Squanch Games a short time after the controversy that resulted in him leaving Rick and Morty as a writer. It’s safe to assume that it’s Squanch’s take on what the original game established and that he’s not involved with the project.
