A young Australian girl has died during a family holiday abroad after being swept away in a fast-flowing creek.
The 10-year-old fell into Marian Creek, in New Zealand’s Fiordland National Park, at around 11.40am on Thursday morning.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and found the girl and pulled her out of the water.

First responders performed CPR on her, but she could not be saved.
Southland Area Commander Inspector Mike Bowman said the incident has left the girl’s family devastated.
“This has been a traumatic event for those involved and police are offering (the family) support,” Inspector Bowman said.
‘We would like to express our sincere condolences to them.’
Inspector Bowman thanked emergency services and the public for their efforts to help save the girl.
A report is being prepared for the coroner.

Fiordland National Park is located approximately 170 km southwest of Queenstown on the South Island of New Zealand.
The World Heritage Site with 1.2 million hectares of mountains, glaciers and lakes is known for its breathtaking views of the natural landscape.
The park is a popular tourist spot known for its various outdoor activities such as kayaking, mountain biking and bush walks through the extensive parks.
