A major rescue operation is underway to save nine bushwalkers stranded in a national park in NSW.

The group was walking along the Culoul Range Trail in Colo Heightson, Wollemi National Park, when a member fell and hit his head at around 7.30pm on Saturday.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and stayed with the group overnight, treating the man, who is in his 60s, for a minor laceration to his head.

Multi-agency efforts are now underway to get the group to safety.
