Why everyone is talking about the quirky feature hiding behind the doors of this incredible Gold Coast home: ‘A slice of paradise’

A dreamy country house makes guests feel as if they have been transported to the Mediterranean as soon as they step through the door.

The incredible home, called La Rosa, is located on the island of Capri, right in Surfers Paradise, and broke a suburban record when it sold for $4 million.

Visitors enter the unique home through a curved mosaic tunnel and are greeted by a five-meter-tall, bright pink giraffe that has been playfully crafted to look as if it has gnawed one of the pendant lights from the roof.

The eclectic design is a mix of Mediterranean, Arabic and Asian elements, with fun surprises hidden in every room, from the outdoor bath in the rear courtyard to the enormous closet in the master bedroom.

La Rosa is the epitome of indoor-outdoor living, as glass doors slide back to combine the beautiful living and dining room, pool area and outdoor space in one.

La Rosa’s designer and first owner Cesar Solis built the house in 2020. He added the giraffe because it means “elegance and gentleness.”

“It basically symbolizes the difficult times of Covid and the fact that the house was a collaboration with all the workers and trades,” he said real estate.com.au.

‘I wanted to keep the giraffe as a reminder of how we all came together during Covid to create this beautiful home. The way we placed the giraffe at the entrance made me want it to be the protector of the house.”

On the other side of the path where the giraffe sits is the entrance to the eccentric path where guests are greeted with a dark wood staircase and walls decorated with artwork of serpentine faces.

La Rosa changed hands on April 12 and raised a whopping $4 million. It ‘broke’ the record for the most expensive house sold on the island of Capri, whether or not in a dry place on the water.

The previous record was set by another house on the same street, which fetched $3.5 million.

Listing agent Avalon Vicario of Amir Prestige told FEMAIL that the amazing home had a huge amount of interest, both from homebuyers and neighbors who watched as it was built and wanted to see the end result.

‘There was a lot of interest. “I once saw so many people at the opening of the house, we had over 100 people in the building,” she said.

‘It is phenomenal to walk through the cave tunnel, it is so spectacular and unique that you feel like you are walking into the Mediterranean Sea.’

Avalon said the new owners are “big travelers” but love the space so much that they don’t feel the need to book as many getaways.

“When she walked through that door, that was the feeling that was evoked in her, she said, ‘I don’t need to travel anymore, I just booked a cruise, but now I just want to stay in my house!’,” the agent remembered.
