Renowned Kenyan activist Morara Kebaso has unveiled plans to establish a formal organization aimed at holding the government accountable, marking a significant step in his long-running campaign for transparency and reform.
In a bold move to intensify his fight against corruption, Kebaso announced on Saturday, September 14, 2024, that he is actively searching for office space in Nairobi to serve as the headquarters for the initiative.
“I am looking for a compound house within Nairobi that can be an office and headquarters to our movement,” Kebaso posted on X, previously known as Twitter.
He encouraged those with potential properties to send pictures via WhatsApp, while cautioning that he would take security measures to avoid suspicious offers.
“I will take some security precautions to avoid entrapping offers. I need it as soon as possible. If we are interested, my personal assistant will reach out to you for viewing,” he added.
Kebaso emphasized that this was a key moment to formalize his efforts toward systemic change in Kenya, a mission that has long been at the heart of his activism.
The Gen Z activist, known for his outspoken social media presence, confirmed that the organization will soon be calling on volunteer professionals to join the movement.
“Once we set up, we will invite applications for volunteer professionals such as lawyers to pursue corruption cases, accountants to audit statements, civil engineers to check the quality of built infrastructure, researchers, public relations experts, etc. I call on all Kenyans of integrity to step up and start considering taking positions in public space. Your commitment towards civic education will be your ticket,” Kebaso said in his statement.
“Twende Kazi,” he concluded, signalling that the fight for accountability in the country is poised to reach a new level.
Oversight duties
Kebaso, a well-known figure on Kenya’s social media landscape, has built a reputation as a thorn in the side of both county and national governments.
Through a series of viral videos and posts, he has exposed numerous stalled government projects, embarrassing public officials and drawing widespread attention to government inefficiencies.
His activism, fueled by satirical critiques and sharp commentary, has garnered a large following among Kenyans frustrated by corruption and unfulfilled promises from leaders.
Public barazas (community forums) and digital platforms have served as Kebasa’s main tools in spotlighting unfinished infrastructure projects and other government failures.
