Virginia’s game vs Louisville paused amid worrying scenes as Cavaliers RB Perris Jones is carted off the field after nasty head-to-head collision

In an unfortunate turn of events, University of Virginia running back Perris Jones was carted off the field during a game against the University of Louisville on Thursday.

Jones caught a swing pass out of the backfield and charged onto the field during the fourth quarter of a then-tied game against the Cardinals.

He lowered his head and made contact with the helmet of Louisville’s Cam’Ron Kelly.

Jones then fumbled with the football, but it was recovered by Virginia’s Malik Washington, who returned it all the way for a touchdown.

However, the mood immediately soured when attention turned to Jones and people realized he wasn’t moving.

The game was stopped and players from both sidelines huddled around Jones as he was helped

Jones was carted off the field and taken to a hospital. He moved his eyes but no other parts of his body

The Louisville staff started to take care of him and Jones was eventually put on a board.

Both teams came from the sidelines and huddled around the player, who was loaded into a cart and taken off the field after the game was suspended for some time.

Later in the game, ESPN reported that Jones had his eyes open and was moving, but he was not moving any other part of his body.

Jones was also taken to the University of Louisville Hospital for further evaluation. A UVA spokesperson added that there will be no further updates on his condition this evening.

That touchdown gave UVA the lead over the 11th-seeded Cardinals by a score of 21-14.

This game comes nearly a year after three Virginia Cavaliers football players were killed in a shooting after returning to campus in Charlottesville, VA from a field trip to Washington, DC.
