Two gunned down in early morning police patrol in Kilimani

Two people were on Sunday, November 3, 2024, morning, shot dead by police in Kilimani, Nairobi, during a patrol.

According to a statement issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the two are suspected to have been among a three-member gang that was involved in robberies in the area.

The DCI says one member of the suspected gang escaped, and a manhunt for him has since been launched.

Robberies in Kilimani

The police drawn from Kilimani Police Station are reported to have bumped into the gang of three while carrying out their routine patrol along Tigoni Road near Naivas Supermarket.

The DCI states that the three were caught in the act of robbing, leading to a shootout that left two of them dead as one escaped with gunshot wounds.

A Mini Revolver pistol, a panga, mobile phones and a motorcycle are among the items police say were recovered during the incident.

“Police officers drawn from Kilimani police station have this morning fatally wounded two robbers and recovered a Mini Revolver, a panga, mobile phones and a motorcycle Reg. No. KMGB 965W. The officers who were on patrol duties along Tigoni road near Naivas Supermarket are reported to have bumped into the gang of three as they were right in the act leading to a shoot out that left two gang members permanently immobilized as one of their members escaped with gunshot wounds,” the DCI said in the statement issued via social media.

Items positively identified

The DCI further stated that two members of the public who had earlier lost their valuables were able to positively identify them from the recoveries.

The scene of the incident has since been processed by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) detectives as the search for the escapee continues.

Members of the public in Kilimani have been called upon to continue collaborating with law enforcement agencies for safety of the sub county, with the police intensifying patrols in the area.

“Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies within Kilimani sub county have intensified patrols within their area of jurisdiction and therefore calls upon members of the public to continue collaborating with them for a safer and secure sub county,” the DCI stated.
