A former southern Indiana sheriff is facing 25 felony charges after allegedly spending hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on luxury purchases including vacations, vehicles and cigars.

The Clark County Jail was in the national news again four years later, when more than two dozen female inmates alleged in federal court that they had been attacked, harassed and sexually assaulted after a deputy sheriff, David Lowe, stole the keys to the women’s wing for $1,000 had sold to male prisoners. .

In court filings, prosecutors have alleged that the family has refused to cooperate with investigators. About 50 search warrants were also executed during the massive investigation, including searches of the family’s homes and cars.

Prosecutors allege Noel used Volunteer Firefighters Association money to pay his court-ordered child support.

Jamey and Misty allegedly charged nearly $200,000 in tuition and fees for two of their daughters through credit cards taken out in the fire department’s names.

The couple has three daughters, although only Kasey has been charged by the state.

None of the Noels have yet commented on the ongoing legal proceedings.

Some of the other items seized during authorities’ searches of Noel’s properties were designer clothing worth thousands and thousands of dollars, including Tom James suits and Ferragamo shoes, paid for with the nonprofit’s credit cards.
