The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced a massive recruitment of teachers for senior roles both in primary and secondary schools.
In the advertisement posted on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, the commission announced that of the 5,690 vacancies, 755 are for the position of post-primary school principals, an equivalent of the secondary schools, while 816 are for their deputies.
In addition, TSC would be hiring 1,208 teachers for the primary school heads and 2,911 deputies.
Requirements for appointments
A candidate suitable for the appointment to the principal (post-primary) position will be required to have served as Deputy Principal or as a Senior Master for a minimum period of six months.
“For appointment to this grade, a teacher must have served as Deputy Principal II/Senior Master I, T-Scale 12, for a minimum period of six (6) months and have obtained a satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process.
“Have demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and provide professional support to other teachers; and meet any other requirement deemed necessary by the commission,” TSC announced.
For the deputy principal position, the commission stated that for the appointment, the candidate should have served as Senior Master in their schools for a minimum period of three years.
“For appointment to this grade, a teacher must have served as Senior Master III T-Scale 10 for a minimum period of three years, have obtained a satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process, and demonstrate the ability to supervise, mentor, and provide professional support to other teachers and meet any other requirement deemed necessary by the Commission,” TSC stated.
Primary school heads
For primary school, the commission announced that for the appointment of the head teacher position, the candidate must have served as Deputy Head Teacher II TSC Scale 9 for a minimum period of three years.
“Have served as Deputy Head Teacher II TSC Scale 9 for a minimum period of three years, have satisfactory ratings in the performance appraisal process, and have demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and provide professional support to other teachers,” the commission announced.
While for the primary school deputy position, a teacher will be required to have served as Senior Teacher I T-Scale 8 for a minimum period of three years.
Interested candidates, who meet the required qualifications, have been advised to submit their applications online through the TSC portal by Monday, November 18, at midnight.
