Trump brags about beating Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus with his January 6 choir song and calls detained Capitol riot suspects ‘hostages’

  • Former President Donald Trump opened his rally in Houston on Thursday by bragging about the success of the J6 Prison Choir’s single Justice for All
  • Men involved in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol sing the Star-Spangled flag as Trump recites the Pledge of Allegiance in the song
  • “It beat everyone, it beat Taylor Swift, it beat Miley Cyrus,” Trump said

Former President Donald Trump opened his rally in Houston on Thursday by boasting about the success of the single “Justice for All,” his collaboration with a group of men jailed for their role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

The ex-president took the stage and saluted the flag as the J6 Prison Choir’s song played – it’s a mix of the Star-Spangled Banner and a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, with the “beautiful words,” as he said put it: executed by Trump.

Trump said he called the group the “J6 hostages” and called what happened to the men “a shame.”

“And when that came out, it became the No. 1 song,” Trump boasted. “It beat everyone, it beat Taylor Swift, it beat Miley Cyrus, who was No. 1 and 2, they were No. 1 and 2, we knocked them out for a long time. That song had been around for a long time.”

Justice for All topped the Billboard digital song sales chart for a week in March, meaning it was the most downloaded song.

Coupled with that, it topped the iTunes charts one weekend in March, beating Cyrus’ song Flowers.

However, Billboard noted that it fell far behind the No. 1 most-streamed song, Morgan Wallen’s Last Night.

Wallen’s hit attracted 38.9 million streams, while Justice for All was streamed 442,000 times.

And Cyrus remained at the forefront of Billboard’s radio song survey.

During the rally, Trump exaggerated the song’s lasting power.

“It was the No. 1 record or song – it had been for months – so I just wanted to tell you about it and I thought this might be a good place,” he told the audience. “It’s certainly a fitting state, I love Texas, it’s big and strong and the people are big and strong too.”

He said he planned to play it “a few more times” as he campaigns for president again.

Rather than distancing himself from the violent riot of January 6, Trump has doubled down on his support for those in legal trouble for participating in the attack.

He spoke of the ‘spirit’ of the J6 Prison Choir.

The money from the single will go towards their defense unless they are accused of assaulting a police officer.

In total, five people were killed in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol and hundreds of police officers were injured.

On January 6, 2021, Trump had gathered supporters at the Ellipse near the White House and then encouraged them to march to the Capitol, where Vice President Mike Pence and members of Congress were meeting to certify President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory .

Trump has falsely emphasized — and continues to do so — that there was widespread voter fraud, which deprived him of a second term.

He was impeached for a second time for his role in an insurrection — though he was acquitted by the U.S. Senate — and faces criminal charges in connection with January 6 as part of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation.
