A tragic bus accident in Mississippi claimed seven lives, including a 16-year-old girl and her 6-year-old brother. Authorities reported that a tire failure likely caused the motor coach to veer off the road and overturn.

The incident occurred Saturday east of Vicksburg, Mississippi, resulting in 37 injuries, according to officials.

The National Transportation Safety Board revealed preliminary investigation results, confirming the crash happened early Saturday near Vicksburg.

“The NTSB, along with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, is deploying a team to investigate the motor coach crash that occurred after a tire failure on Interstate 20 near Vicksburg, Mississippi,” stated the NTSB on X.

Six individuals died on the scene, while one succumbed at Merit Health Hospital in Vicksburg. Authorities mentioned that the co-driver did not require hospitalisation.

Warren County Coroner Doug L. Huskey informed ABC News that all the deceased were from Mexico, including the young siblings.

Huskey confirmed the identification of the victims and noted that the Mississippi Highway Patrol would release their names on Sunday afternoon.

The 2018 Volvo commercial bus was heading west on Interstate 20 when it left the road just before 1 a.m. local time.

Besides the teenager and her brother, three men and two women also lost their lives, as confirmed by Huskey.
