Tori Spelling's mother Candy Spelling turns comments off on Instagram after she was lambasted for letting her daughter's family stay in an RV

Candy Spelling cut out comments on her Instagram recently after she was deluged by social media users who were upset by her seeming abandonment of her daughter Tori Spelling.

The 77-year-old widow of the legendary TV producer Aaron Spelling set off the firestorm when she posted an innocuous video of her garden.

But Tori’s fans rushed to the comments to call her ‘spiteful’ while saying she should be ‘ashamed’ of herself for allegedly not helping out her 50-year-old daughter and her grandchildren financially after they were seen staying in a $100-per-night motel and then in an RV parked at a campground in Ventura County.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Candy’s representative for comment. 

‘I’m happy to report that my roses are blooming! #summergarden #iloveroses #aroseisarose,’ she captioned the clip, which showed off her vibrant white roses.

The video also zoomed in and out to reveal her luxury high-rise that towered over Los Angeles.

But many viewers were displeased by the stunning display of wealth, as well as the focus on flowers over her own family. 

‘You say in your profile that you’re a grandmother. Get them out of that RV and into a home,’ read one particularly pointed comment before Candy had locked up her account.

‘Help your daughter and grandchildren, you selfish woman. How dare you risk the lives of your daughter and grandchildren when you can provide safety and shelter,’ read another.

So far, representatives for Tori and her estranged husband Dean McDermott have also not responded to DailyMail.com’s request for comment.

Fans have theorized that Tori and her children — Liam, 16; Stella, 15; Hattie, 11; Finn, 10; and Beau, six — have been staying in a $100-per-night motel and then in the RV due to financial issues.

After she was seen at the motel, sources claimed to Us Weekly that Tori and the kids were staying there due to a mold problem at her home, and not because of her separation from Dean.

Although Candy was blasted by Tori’s fans for the living arrangement and allegedly not giving her daughter a hand, a source told Page Six on Thursday that Candy had found a house for Tori and the children to live in.

However, Tori allegedly refused because she ‘wanted to live in a certain place.’

‘[It] is fine, they should live where they want to live,’ the source added.

Tori is said to have had a fractured relationship with her mother for years, adding to the outrage from social media commenters.

Candy currently resides in a $47 million penthouse apartment in Los Angeles’ Century City neighborhood while she waits for construction on her new home in a nearby development to wrap up.

After she posed the video of her roses, Instagram users were quick to flood the comment section with angry messages for the philanthropist, with one person asking her, ‘Roses? This is what you focus on?

‘What a joke,’ they added. ‘Help your child and your grandkids lady.’

‘Fancy letting your daughter and your five grand children live in an RV. You ought to be ashamed of yourself for not helping her emotionally and financially,’ someone else said.

‘PLEASE help your grandchildren. It seems like they’re lost,’ begged another user. ‘If they can’t go home because of TOXIC MOLD can you at least help them with that? As one mother to another Candy.’

‘There’s something said about a woman who will sit by and watch, while her [five] grandchildren and daughter live in poverty and squalor,’ said another person. ‘Can you not share some of your inheritance?’

Tori, whose father, Aaron Spelling, was one of the most successful Hollywood producers, famously lived in the second largest abode in all of Los Angeles as a teen – but she has fallen on hard times recently, splitting from her husband-of-18-years, Dean McDermott, last month, and being forced out of her home due to mold.

The best-selling author has also been open about her financial struggles, previously telling Good Morning America that after she was cast in 90210, her parents told her she was on her own financially.

Thanks to the success of the show, it was easy for Tori to get by – but when it came to an end in 2000, she said she struggled to manage her funds.

She soon racked up tens of thousands of dollars in credit card debt, which she attributed to ‘bad shopping habits.’

When her dad died in 2006, Tori only received $800,000 of the estimated $600 million fortune that was left behind by her late father.

She had a very-public falling out with her parents right before his passing, which she said stemmed from them not being supportive of her relationship with Dean.

In 2009, Candy shared an open letter to Tori, begging for her to answer her ‘calls and text messages.’ 

‘You haven’t responded to my e-mails, phone calls and text messages. You say you look at my website, so I’m trying to reach you that way,’ she wrote on her website.

‘I want to see you and your family – in private, like the “normal family” you say [you] always wanted.’

Tori responded during a chat with People, telling the outlet, ‘I, in no way, cut her off. She is welcome to make the effort if she wants to be present in [my kids’] lives. She knows how to reach me, she knows where we live.

‘If she would love to see her grandchildren, she should really make an effort to reach out and see them.’

Things seemed to get better for the mother-daughter duo in recent years, however, because Tori revealed that their relationship was ‘really good’ during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live in 2020.

And in 2022, they shared a photo together for the first time in years, while celebrating Candy’s birthday.

In images obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com on Wednesday, the actress was seen driving a Sunseeker E450 RV and parking it at the campground. 

She and her kids were pictured unloading several items from the RV, including camping chairs, a cooler, a stove, a pop-up table – and even a large rug to cover the dusty ground. 

In what could be seen as a pointed message to her former husband, Tori donned a bold green sweater with the word ‘compassion’ written across the front in bright yellow letters, while the back bore the phrase: ‘Don’t leave home without it.’ 

She paired it with denim shorts and wore a brown, oversized T-shirt underneath. 

An onlooker told DailyMail.com that protective mom Tori scolded some of her children during their stay after they inched too close to a nearby cliffside. 

Tori was also seen making her way around the family’s temporary home with a large multipack box of Doritos and Cheetos in her hand, perhaps attempting to clean-up the mess that had built up outside the RV. 

Her new living conditions are a stark contrast to the 55,000-square-foot mansion that she grew up in, which contained a whopping 123 rooms – including 14 bedrooms, 27 bathrooms, a bowling alley, gift-wrapping room, nightclub, barbershop, and ‘museum’ for her mom’s expansive doll collection. 

However Tori appeared perfectly at ease with her new surroundings – at one point kicking back to relax in one of the camping chairs, while attempting to maintain a touch of Hollywood glamour by sporting a pair of large white sunglasses as she scrolled on her phone. 

The former on-screen star was also seen partaking in some chores – which involved hanging clothes to try outside the RV before preparing to cook dinner.

She also had to venture out to stock up on supplies for the family’s stay, hopping back behind the wheel of the RV and heading to a local Walmart, where she and her daughter Stella were seen wheeling a grocery cart filled with plastic shopping bags. 

For this outing, Tori donned a pale pink Billabong T-shirt with the words ‘follow the sun’ written across it, which she paired with the same cut-off denim shorts – while her daughter opted for a white sports bra and a pair of black pants.  

Over the weekend, the family was also seen parking the RV near the beach, where they enjoyed a snack while watching the sunset over the Pacific ocean and took a relaxing walk by the shore.

At one point, Tori was seen talking to a California Parks Deputy, although it appears the chat wasn’t about anything serious given that the actress walked away with a smile on her face. 

The Sunseeker E450 RV features a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living room. Typically, the vehicles also contain a dinette which can be converted to provide additional sleeping capacity.

The sofas are also capable to be turned into beds, which will no doubt be handy for Tori’s large brood.

In the bigger models, the motor homes also have a kids’ sofa sleeper which flips down into a bunkbed.

At the time, a source told DailyMail.com exclusively that Dean had reached his boiling point after bowing down to Tori’s ‘demands’ for so long.

‘Dean has changed and worked very hard to be the husband she needed him to be but she is still demanding and entitled,’ the insider dished. ‘Nothing he does or has done will ever be good enough for her.’

The friend of couple’s said Tori of ‘used’ their previous ‘marital problems to stay relevant,’ which took a ‘toll’ on her husband.

In 2013, Dean admitted to cheating on Tori while she was ‘at a Christmas event,’ calling his actions ‘disgusting’ during a segment of their reality show. He did not specify who the affair was with. 

He then checked himself into rehab to ‘address some health and personal issue,’ and the two ultimately decided to stay together. 

According to the insider, Tori had been pushing Dean to secure more roles in order to ‘support’ their family in recent months – but was less than thrilled when those jobs forced him to spend a lot of time away from home.

The source added that Tori felt like Dean ‘carrying his half’ when it came to parenting their five kids, and that she was forced to ‘raise all their children on her own’ due to his busy schedule.
