Tom Holland’s Romeo and Juliet set to ‘transfer to Broadway’ after West End tickets sold out in TWO HOURS – amid ‘barrage of deplorable racial abuse’ over diverse casting

Despite not even opening in the West End yet, Tom Holland’s Romeo and Juliet will move to Broadway later this year.

The Marvel actor, 27, who will star as Romeo, takes to the stage at London’s Duke of York’s Theater next month for a 12-week run after tickets sold out just two hours after going on sale in February.

Fans compared the stress of getting tickets to that of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, which grossed $1.04 billion with 4.35 million tickets sold across 60 tour dates.

A source said The mirror about the transfer: ‘Romeo & Juliet will go to Broadway after their performance in London, details will be announced in due course.’

‘While director Jamie Lloyd has made a name for himself with his minimalist adaptations of classic texts, the headliner of what is essentially another production of Romeo & Juliet is undoubtedly the leading man.’

Before adding: ‘Fans can’t wait to see the Marvel hero test his acting chops up close and personal, and with tickets costing around £200, it’s an incredibly lucrative earner.’

MailOnline has contacted the show’s producers and Tom’s representatives for comment.

It comes after the production, which also stars Francesca Amewudah-Rivers as Juliet, faced a ‘barrage of deplorable racist abuse’ after the diverse cast was announced.
