This smart mattress topper uses AI to promote sleep and help your body recover faster

Using sleep to aid recovery isn’t exactly a new idea, but Rezet takes it to the next level with its smart mattress topper. Honored with an innovation award at CES 2024 and announced as the ‘first ever intelligent wearable mattress topper’, an evening on the agenda Top mattress Rezet provides you with both a good night’s sleep and a personalized plan to manage your health and recovery. That’s a lot for a few centimeters of foam.

Rezet uses BCG (ballistocardiographic) sensors, which essentially monitor the micro-movements your body makes as blood flows around it. Rezet then analyzes this data (combined with information from your synced smart devices), before using AI to create a personalized sleep graph, recovery strategy and daily support plans. It’s like the best sleep tracker, taken up a few notches.

I’ve spent a lot of time researching the best mattress toppers, and honestly, it’s hard to compare the Rezet to anything else. Is it firm or soft? Doesn’t matter, the topper uses self-adjusting chambers to literally adjust the surface to your movements. Does the foam sleep warm? No, the smart thermal control changes the temperature literally overnight.

Oh – and it will also massage you while you sleep. Don’t expect it to improve your shoulder knots – this is a gentle massage experience – but the rhythmic compressions should contribute to a deeper sleep and a more refreshing morning.

Currently priced at $1,899 for a queen, it’s undoubtedly a premium purchase, but to be honest, it’s not as eye-wateringly expensive as I expected. It’s similar to the Eight Sleep Pod Cover, a smart cooling cover that our tester somewhat grudgingly admitted lived up to its high price tag.

However, after spending almost two thousand dollars for your mattress topper, you are expected to pay a monthly subscription to continue accessing your personal training plan. That’s frustrating. Stop paying and as long as the topper is still working, you will lose access to one of its most important features. (If you sleep on one of our non-smart best mattresses, you won’t have to pay monthly or the edge support will be lost.)

While it may be a hefty expense for many of us, the Rezet mattress topper is an exciting look at how technology could soon become an integral part of our bedtime routine. If you want an affordable way to sleep to aid recovery, try sleeping with a pillow between your knees for the time being.
