The Project’s Steve Price weighs in on Lizzo drama as she’s sued by former dancers for sexual harassment and fat shaming: ‘I don’t think a white male performer would survive that’

The hosts of Australia’s The Project weighed in on American pop star Lizzo’s legal woes on Monday.

Lizzo, 35, has been accused of creating a ‘hostile work environment’, disability discrimination, sexual harassment, and failing to stop these issues among her dance troupe among other claims.

Conservative pundit Steve Price shared his thoughts with the show’s panel as they pondered if the Truth Hurts singer would ‘survive’ the allegations.

‘Well, I don’t think a white male performer would survive that. They’d be out of a job already,’ Steve told his co-stars.

‘Who knows whether these allegations are correct or not,’ he added.

Fellow panellist Waleed Aly urged caution among those playing judge and jury.

‘You’ve got to be careful now. This is the lesson we refuse to learn,’ he said.

‘There are allegations made and we jump in and start doing commentary and later a court reaches a decision and we go, “What do we do now?”

‘Maybe we’d be better off if we didn’t end up making that mistake.’

Lizzo has been subject to a string of accusations including fat-shaming, sexual harassment and creating a ‘hostile work environment’.

Her former dancers allege that between 2021 and 2023, they were ‘forced to endure sexually denigrating behavior’ and were pressured into taking part in ‘disturbing sex shows’.

Lizzo dismissed the claims from the sexual harassment lawsuit in a statement posted to Instagram earlier on Thursday.

The singer insisted the claims are untrue and alleged her accusers had previously been warned about their own ‘inappropriate and unprofessional’ conduct.

She also finally addressed shocking banana sex act allegations, in which the women claimed Lizzo invited cast members to eat bananas from nude performers’ vaginas while in Amsterdam.

Lizzo wrote in a statement: ‘These last few days have been gut wrenchingly difficult and overwhelmingly disappointing.

‘My work ethic, morals and respectfulness have been questioned. My character has been criticized. Usually I choose not to respond to false allegations but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous to not be addressed.

‘These sensationalized stories are coming from former employees who have already publicly admitted that they were told their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional.

‘As an artist I have always been very passionate about what I do. I take my music and my performances seriously because at the end of the day I only want to put out the best art that represents me and my fans.

‘With passion comes hard work and high standards. Sometimes I have to make hard decisions but it’s never my intention to make anyone feel uncomfortable or like they aren’t valued as an important part of the team.

‘l am not here to be looked at as a victim, but I also know that I am not the villain that people and the media have portrayed me to be these last few days.

‘I am very open with my sexuality and expressing myself but I cannot accept or allow people to use that openness to make me out to be something I am not.

‘There is nothing I take more seriously than the respect we deserve as women in the world. I know what it feels like to be body shamed on a daily basis and would absolutely never criticize or terminate an employee because of their weight.

‘I’m hurt but I will not let the good work I’ve done in the world be overshadowed by this. I want to thank everyone who has reached out in support to lift me up during this difficult time.’
