That's a bit posh! Samantha Armytage pleads for 'macadamia and truffle farmers' instead of 'sheep and cattle' to apply for new season of Farmer Wants A Wife

Samantha Armytage wants a fresh crop of eligible farmers for the next season of Farmer Wants A Wife.

The host of the popular Channel Seven dating show, 46, thinks sheep and cattle farmers have been overrepresented in previous seasons.

Samantha, who lives on a farm in the Southern Highlands with her horse breeder husband Richard Lavender, has expressed interest in seeing a more niche types of contestants, such as truffle or macadamia farmers and winegrowers. 

‘They’re casting now and we start shooting later in the year,’ she told 7life ahead of the 2024 season. 

The television presenter thinks it would be ‘fascinating’ to find out about especially about ‘macadamia farmers around northern New South Wales’. 

‘I thought David was really successful and really interesting…with his apple orchard in Queensland, because it was just a little bit out of the norm,’ she said about one of the farmers from last year’s season.

Continuing her argument for contestant diversity in Farmer Wants A Wife, she suggested the show could cover ‘what farmers are doing in unusual ways (and) products we don’t see all the time.’

Samantha made sure not to throw Aussie livestock farmers under the tractor though, saying ‘that’s not to take away from our sheep and cattle farmers, who I love.’

The former Sunrise host waxed lyrical about the many beautiful and different landscapes of Australia ‘that are not the norm’ and would be ‘really fascinating to look at.’

Growing up on a sheep station and married to a horse breeder, Sam calls herself a ‘huge advocate for our agricultural industry’ and says she believes in Australian farmers.

She also believes in the dating show’s ability to exhibit the country’s agricultural practices. 

‘It’s wonderful to show Australians how dynamic our farmers can be, where they come from, what they’re producing,’ she says.

‘You know, if you’ve got a bowl of almonds on your table, do you know where they came from?’
