In a significant drug bust, Thai authorities intercepted a vehicle in Pathum Thani province, seizing over 5.3 million methamphetamine pills intended for distribution in the area. The driver, 31 year old Veerayuth, fled into the night, leaving behind not only the drugs but also a firearm discovered in his car.

The raid took place last night, with the details made public by high-ranking police officials the following day.

Thai police, in a meticulously planned operation, successfully thwarted a large-scale drug trafficking attempt destined for the streets of Pathum Thani.

The sting operation took place late last night, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Provincial Police Region 1, along with the head of Narcotics Suppression for the region and their team.

They had been tipped off about a significant drug shipment passing through the area of Bueng Cham O in Nong Suea District, Pathum Thani Province.

Upon identifying the target vehicle, a Toyota Yaris with the license plate 5กย4268 from Bangkok, authorities attempted an interception.

Veerayuth, the driver, initially managed to evade the police by driving through alternative routes between Klong 9 and Klong 10. However, when finally confronted by the police, he abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot into the darkness.

A search of the car yielded a staggering 2.5 million methamphetamine pills, packed in four black plastic bags, and a handgun.

The investigation then led the authorities to Veerayuth’s residence, an unnumbered makeshift shelter in Bueng Kasam, Nong Suea District. There, they uncovered an additional 2.8 million meth pills and apprehended Veerayuth’s wife, who denied any involvement. The wife’s nationality was identified as Cambodian, and she was 31 years old.

Naradet Tiprak, the Deputy Commissioner, revealed that Veerayuth was a known figure in a drug trafficking network that supplied methamphetamine to dealers in Pathum Thani and beyond. The operation typically involved dropping the ordered drugs at secluded prearranged locations, where the dealers would then pick them up.

Following the bust, the police are now intensifying efforts to locate Veerayuth and dismantle the larger drug network associated with this case.

This incident is part of Thailand’s ongoing battle against drug trafficking, which often sees large quantities of narcotics moving through the region. The seizure of over 5.3 million methamphetamine pills not only disrupts the supply chain but also signals a warning to other traffickers operating within the country.

The authorities remain vigilant, and the search for Veerayuth continues, as they work to bring down those responsible for feeding the illicit drug trade in Thailand, as reported by Khaosod.
