Controversy has erupted around a renowned feng shui master, with multiple victims stepping forward to file complaints through a popular programme. The situation caught the attention of the Thai national police, prompting Police General Kittirat Phanphet to assign Police Lieutenant General Akka-radech Phimonsri, along with the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), to oversee the case.
Venerable Wachira Wachirapanyo from Lam Luk Ka’s Lanna Temple expressed concerns regarding the matter, revealing that he has been warning followers about this particular feng shui practice for years. According to Wachira, Chinese feng shui associations, particularly in Beijing, do not endorse or recognise this brand of feng shui or its Thai practitioners.
Recently, a hotel owner fell victim to this practice, losing over 2 million baht to what was claimed to be necessary feng shui enhancements involving various mystical items like qilin. Wachira was shocked upon learning about this incident, as the hotel owner was instructed to incorporate these items into their property by the feng shui master.
“The true role of a feng shui master is merely to observe and advise, not to sell goods.”
Wachira emphasised the distinction between genuine consultancy and commercial exploitation.
The incident highlights the ongoing issue of unregulated spiritual consultants exploiting individuals seeking guidance and prosperity through ancient practices. Despite the popularity of feng shui, especially in Southeast Asia, many in the field, including Wachira, stress the importance of discernment and understanding the cultural and historical context of such practices, reported KhaoSod.
Police are now investigating the extent of the issue, aiming to protect individuals from falling prey to fraudulent practices.
