Thai national arrested in Pattaya after attempted assault on officer

A Thai national was apprehended in Pattaya in the small hours of this morning, following reports of his erratic behaviour and an attempted assault on a local officer. The incident was reported to the Pattaya City Special Affairs Radio Centre at six minutes past midnight, leading to the immediate dispatch of officers to the scene, located at the entrance of the Father Ray Foundation on Sukhumvit Road’s flyover.

Upon their arrival, the officers found a Thai individual, whose name remains undisclosed, displaying erratic behaviour and uttering nonsensical statements. The man, speculated to be in his 30s or 40s, was dressed in a football shirt and shorts.

During the struggle to subdue him, he reportedly attempted to stab an officer with a sharp instrument. Subsequently, he was taken into custody and escorted to the Pattaya Police Station to pacify.

Special Affairs Officer Kittiphan Bunchat narrated the incident, stating that he received a call from alarmed citizens, reporting a man threatening random passersby on the street. Bunchat himself narrowly escaped being stabbed by the agitated individual, managing to evade the attack in time.

The apprehended individual is anticipated to face multiple charges for his violent actions, reported Pattaya News.

Initially caught off guard, unprepared municipal officers were swiftly reinforced by a specialised police task force armed with riot control gear.

Eyewitnesses recounted tense moments as law enforcement closed in on the man, eventually cornering him in a nearby alley. The individual in question has been identified as Wirasak Boontot, a 38 year old resident of an abandoned building in the area.

Authorities suspect substance abuse may have played a significant role in his behaviour.
