Investigation Division of the Metropolitan Police Bureau (IDMB) officers arrested a Thai businessman for allegedly raping a woman. The woman is in critical condition due to an attempted suicide after the sexual assault.
The 29 year old victim filed a complaint against the businessman, Wachirawit “Joe” Sirichokwanit, at Tung Mahamek Police Station in Bangkok on March 14, accusing him of raping her. She revealed that the sexual assault took place at her home on March 13, and Wachirawit appeared to be drunk.
The victim explained that Wachirawit was a well-known Thai businessman who owned a snack brand called Banana Joe and a cannabis shop next to her home. He broke into her home on the night of March 13 and raped her.
The victim told police that Wachirawit shouted at her that he would “rape her to death.” She tried to defend herself and fought back until she lost consciousness. When she woke up the next morning, the rapist was still in her bed. She had to pull herself up to go to the police station.
While waiting for Tung Mahamek Police Station to investigate her case, the victim tried to commit suicide by jumping from the fourth floor of her home. She did not die in the attempt but suffered serious injuries.
IDMB officers intervened in the case to ensure justice for the victim and managed to arrest the businessman today, March 21, at his luxury condominium in the Phloen Chit area of Bangkok.
Wachirawit and his girlfriend argued with police officers and tried to resist arrest before eventually complying with police orders.
During questioning, Wachirawit denied raping the victim, claiming the victim was willing to have sex with him.
He said he was having a relationship with the victim, which he concealed from his girlfriend. Claiming to be involved with three women, he asserted that his girlfriend only discovered the truth recently.
Metropolitan Police Bureau Commander Teeradate Thammasutee pledged to uphold justice for both individuals involved. Teeradate stated that the police harboured doubts regarding the businessman’s assertion, as it conflicted with the victim’s account and other evidence.
Police will continue to collect additional evidence in the case, as the victim remains unable to provide further information due to her serious condition.
