Texas deputy constable fatally shot, suspect in custody

A suspect is now in custody after a Texas deputy constable was fatally shot on his way to work, police confirmed. Deputy Maher Husseini of Harris County Constable Precinct 4 was identified as the victim on Tuesday afternoon. After a brief manhunt, authorities apprehended the suspect. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect’s vehicle and pursued it until it crashed into the water by Old Causeway in Galveston, as reported by FOX 26 Houston.

Houston Police Department Chief Noe Diaz described the incident, stating that Husseini was in his personal car and had stopped at a red light when a man approached and shot him. Diaz referred to the event as a “tragic incident” and indicated that the suspect had not yet been identified. Husseini was shot multiple times, according to Diaz.

The suspect, described as a Middle Eastern male between 35 and 40 years old, stands 5-foot-9 and weighs 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing dark clothing and has dark thinning hair. His vehicle was a charcoal-gray Chevy Impala with a distinctive bumper disfigurement.

Husseini had been part of Constable Mark Herman’s Office since 2021, serving in the South-Central District. The Harris County Constable Precinct 4 requested on social media that people keep Deputy Husseini in their prayers.

Diaz expressed the profound impact of the loss on the community, describing it as “terrible” and stating that such incidents “shouldn’t happen.” Authorities urge anyone with information on the incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477 or the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
