The family of a 16-year-old girl who died in a three-car collision has paid tribute to their ‘beautiful’ daughter. Sarah Cain succumbed to her injuries two days after the accident, which occurred on the A1(M) in West Yorkshire last week.
Police have arrested a man in connection with the crash, while two other individuals remain hospitalised. In a statement released by the police, her family expressed their grief, stating, “We as a family are devastated by the death of our beautiful Sarah. She is and always will be irreplaceable.”
Emergency services responded to reports of a pile-up on the southbound carriageway near junction 41 at 12:30pm on Thursday. The collision involved a Citroen C5 and a Kia Niro on the motorway’s second lane. The impact caused both vehicles to veer into the first lane, where the Kia, carrying Sarah, collided with a Subaru Outback towing a caravan.

Sarah sustained severe head injuries and was taken to hospital, but she passed away yesterday. A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirmed that three individuals were transported to Leeds General Infirmary, and another three were treated at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield.
The driver of the Citroen C5 was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and has been released on police bail. DS Firth from West Yorkshire Police stated, “A number of investigations remain ongoing into this very serious collision which has tragically resulted in a young teenage girl now losing her life.”
He added that the family is being supported by specially trained officers and urged anyone with information to come forward. Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them.
