Police arrested a 16-year-old boy on Thursday, over a week after the murder of a New York mother during a violent robbery in front of her family. The teenager, whose identity remains undisclosed, faces charges of murder, burglary, robbery, and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the death of 57-year-old Ying Zhu Liu, a home health aide. Two additional suspects are still being sought, sources indicated.
Liu was fatally shot inside the eighth-floor hallway of her lower Manhattan building just after 11 p.m. on September 9. Authorities revealed that two masked suspects followed Liu’s 61-year-old husband into the building and the elevator, attempting to rob him.
The couple’s son witnessed the robbery on the eighth floor and tried to intervene but was pistol-whipped by one of the assailants.

Liu emerged from her apartment with a stick to confront the attackers and was subsequently shot in the face. The robbers allegedly stole her husband’s mobile phone before fleeing the scene. Her 32-year-old son, Lin Rong Yan, expressed his grief, stating, “It’s all surreal. I feel only sadness right now.”
